Try runing 3Dmark 2k5 from a clean boot with no applications runing in the background on the Cat 6.1 drivers please.
The review sites showed the laptop geting around 4390 points as a score, that may be the difference in performance between the PC2-4200 and PC2-5300.
And it sounds to me like Acer simply ran out of 667 ram, and defaulted back to 533 ram which is what the other makes seem to be using. My guess is Acer knows that 667 is going to be in very short supply for an extended period of time, so they are taking steps to keep their product on the market.
