installed RAM on the TM8204 - Page 5

I asked www.pcmag.com what their review unit had and it had the 533Mhz memory. This shows it wasn't a case of Acer sending out fast units to reviewers, changing specs, then shipping us the slower memory. It seems to me this is a case of somebody at Acer responsible for marketing confusing what FSB and memory speed are.

I have opened a trouble ticket with TigerDirect (by email). Waiting for their response.

then whats with the few people that got 667 ram without calling acer and complaining?

Yeah, I contacted Acer like other, and they said it was a website mistake. I can live with it - it's still a much, much snappier machine than my last one.

Tiger Direct customers

They said that they would honor something to the customer. They also said that that was a good enough reason to return it. If they get enough complaints then they will contact Acer and try to get something out of them, maybe faster memory?

I was customizing something on the Alienware website and when I got to the Ram section it said:

2GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at 400MHz - 2 x 1024MB

Now is the ram in the 8204 faster than that? Because they have that ram in that huge beast of a machine with two DVD slots.
Yep, the RAM is 1) DDR2 vs. DDR and 2) 533MHz vs. 400MHz.... I'm guessing you're looking at an AMD Athlon 64-based system, which still uses DDR RAM.

Yep, the 8204 RAM is 1) DDR2 vs. DDR and 2) 533MHz vs. 400MHz... You were looking at an AMD-based system, right? They're still using DDR RAM...

Yep, it was the AMD system. So is their's faster or slower than the 8204? And what is the difference between DDR2 and DDR?
Which is faster depends alot on the specifics... DDR2 is capable of transferring (much) more data across the bus at once, but it has higher latency than DDR. In short, some DDR2 is slower than DDR, and some is faster, depending on the system.

Someone else with more technical expertise on this want to weigh in here?

Tiger Direct has now added a "No Returns once signed for" warning to the product page for the notebook, and yet still lists 667Mhz speed RAM. That seems more devious on Tiger Direct's part than anything Acer has done.
Could you paste the actual verbage you're referring to? The return policy I see listed is the same one they've always had, and the one they have for other vendors as well. Unless you're referring to something different...

I think he refers to this note in the return policy for the 8204:
"TigerDirect.com cannot accept returns of Acer TM8204WLMi Intel Core Duo Processor 2.0GHz/ 802.11a/b/g Wireless / Bluetooth / 15.4-Inch WSXGA / 2GB DDR2 / 120GB HDD / DVDRW / Windows XP Pro / Notebook PC after delivery has been made."
And I think that's fine for anyone who's purchased a system since the notice was posted. I think they'll have a difficult time enforcing that notice for purchases made prior to the mistake being noticed.

Should be interesting...

Not every reseller's apparently aware of the issue...

Notice the RAM specs...

That is why it's being a nasty approach from Tigerdirect to the problem, as by this they indicate that you are stuck with what ever you get and sign for irrespective of what is advertised on the website.

Acer's 8204 in Canada website still 667 Mgz

I browsed the dealers of Acer in Toronto and they are selling the 8204 with the correct Ram.
Sure about that? All of them had the mistaken 667MHz on their sites.
TigerDirect has posted the disclaimer on their website but when i called and asked them about the slower RAM i got, they said since they cannot help it, they will accept a return.
So far my experience with them has been extremely good.

@andy318
Yes, they are honoring the already made purchases, the disclaimer is up to protect against furture purchases.
@scoobedo
If you browsed every single merchant selling the 8204 in the whole wide world you will find them either listing the memory as 667mhz or not mentioning the memory speed at all, we are talking about real world findings and not searching through the internet. Acer acknowledged this problem and has already changed the memory specs on their website to 533mhz.

If i wanted to buy 667 mhz ram in about 6 months, how much would it cost?
