Difference between M50 and M55?

I was looking on their site and was wondering what was the difference between the two models besides the fact that the M50 is customizeable and the M55 only comes with preconfigurations. I'm also debating on getting a Toshiba or the Alienware 5500, can anyone tell me why Toshiba is the better way to go and vice versa?
Just the specs. I think the 55 is the model made for chains.

i have owned toshiba and own an alienware at the moment as well... both are good machines.

in the USA the m50 is a configurable model from toshiba directly and the m55 is a model made for retail in the shops. otherwise they are the same.

the difference between the toshiba and alienware depends on what you are going to do with it put some more info about that up and maybe we can help

I plan to use it for school. I will probably play occassionally but mostly school. I use Photoshop and I also edit music and videos, nothing too professional though.

thats tough, what screen are you thinking of for the AW?
actually post up the machine specs you were thinking of for the alienware and for the toshiba, from that we can really get into the merits of both

I'd go with the AW because I prefer Nvidia and the screen is a better res. However, if you can find a 1440x900 res on a 15.4" then that's perfect. On the other hand, the Toshiba is cheaper and it has a DVD burner. I change my mind, actually. (Yes, I edited.)

Never, never buy Toshiba M55, it is cheap Chinese made CS. with Toshiba name on it.

lesterix, please do not use this as a flame place, if you have a beef talk about your reasons as opposed to just flaming the machine and the entire brand

I settled for a Sony FS790 for ~$1500 with 1GB ram, nVidia Geforce 6400 (128mb shared), and a 2.0GHz Pentium-M

can u post a 3DMark2001 score pls? i'm curious how well that GPU does, it's actually a 6200 with higher clock speed?

Sorry I'm not that great of a computer whiz. I never performed a 3DMark score before. If you could explain to me as to how to do it, I'd gladly post the scores. All I know about the graphics card is that it utilizes the memory installed within the laptop instead of using it's own.
