Playing with my new sz120p and it is beautiful. Much improved looks over 560 in my opinion. Dropped my 2 1gig chips in..both slots accessible from the bottom! It has bluetooth which was not listed in the compusa specs so that is cool. Beautiful screen with less light leakage than 560. A full review to come. If anyone has questions just ask away.

I just ordered an SZ140 off the Sony website.

What's the deal with the Go7400? Can you tell how much VRAM is dedicated? Have you run a 3dMark on it yet? How is the screen? What do you think of the Core Duo so far? How is the casing?

SPEAK BOY SPEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am dloading 3d mark 05 as I type. The vram appears to be 128 with 256 thanks to tc and is clocked at 700mem/450freq. The screen is gorgeous! It seems extremely zippy.. Overall feels lighter than s560 and looks very professional. I don't like the keyboard so far..it has a lot of travel and I like less. It won't be a big deal. Nice touch with the express card sd reader. No heat issues at this time with it set to speed as opposed to stamina.

I wonder why Sony doesn't give the option for a 256 VRAM card off their website? The card on the SZ140 comes with 128 VRAM and how much of this is dedicated is apparently still a question. Ah well, "this is not a gaming machine anyway" I keep telling myself.... Still, your 3DMark scores should give me a rough idea of what to expect.
What kind of casing does your model have? That carbon fiber stuff? What does the keyboard having a lot of travel mean?

1969 3d mark 05. This is with the sony driver. When I said travel I meant from the top to the bottom when pressing the keys.

That's pretty damn good IMHO for a lappy of this size!

Do you think the travel issue is just a matter of getting used to the feel of a new keyboard?
Also, what kind of RAM did you put in it?

Thanks for answering these questions! I was a little nervous about my purchase but I am getting less so by the second.

Man, I can't wait for mine now.

cdd543,

does it come with a XP installation disc or just some recovery discs? what about bloatwares? Are there many preinstalled craps?

Also, is the harddisk accessible from the bottom too? planning to upgrade mine to a 7200rpm one if it is easy to access.

pictures please?

I played with the SZ for a little bit at my local Best Buy and I wasn't to fond of the keyboard either but that was the only thing I didn't like about it

I am sure I can get used to the keyboard. I really didn't like the keyboard on the s560 either, but this one feels different. More consistent across the board unlike the 560 that felt different in different sections. No installation disc per usual from Sony. Bloatware is the usual also, but I have removed what I don't use and it is flying. I snapped some pics and will see about getting them posted.
I am using crucial ram.

Iam considering adding more ram to my FE when i receive it... I was looking into the Crucial stuff as well, so far it seems like a reputable company.. would you agree? And anybody have any idea when they might be selling something with 667mhz... or are they selling it already and i have missed it? Finally... do you anticipate the 3d scores to be any better with better drivers?
I was wondering if the 667mhz ram would increase the video speed too. There is the Kingston 1GB 667MHz DDR2 PC2-5300 SODIMM for laptops.

Wow, finally someone who has one! I am not a gamer, so I am more interested in other areas that usually make or break my buying decision. So, if you have a minute, I've got a few questions:

1. Is the display (in detail) an improvement over the S-Series? In other words, are the whites milky smooth white with no dirty-ish tint? Are the colors vibrant and not washy? Are the blacks deep with minimal light leakage? Is it brighter and evenly lit (especially at the edges and corners?) I am hoping that Sony did NOT put the same panel in the SZ as the S Series and went with a higher quality display found in the FS and FJ models.

2. In terms of build quality, is it solid? Does it make any creaks and squeaks when using or moving it? Is *just* the lid made out of the strong materials advertised and the rest plastic, or is the whole chassis made from the same rigid materials?

3. Is the hard drive accessible on the bottom of the notebook (for easy upgrades) like the FS and FJ series? Or did Sony go for the 'bury it deep' option they seem to like?

4. Does it run QUIET? Like the fan, hard drive, etc? Does the GPU have its own fan?

5. Does it run reasonably COOL? If it gets very hot, where are the hot areas?

Thanks a lot!
