far cry video issue

I installed far cry and have been playing it perfectly. Just recently I installed all of the updates to version 1.33 . When I try and play it there are multicolored spots all over the screen. What could be causing this issue? Everything else works fine on it.

Was that the update the added shader 3.0 support....if so and your settings were on High, SM3.0 will be set to on automatically. What Driver are you using... i'm *assuming* you have a XPS2 with a 6800 ultra...although you could have a 9300 with a ati x300.....I guess you'll just have to post some more details!

Well when I first tried FarCry I had some very odd (not quite the same as yours) graphical bugs and a driver update fixed them right up. Its' worth a shot I suppose.

hehe nice....alright man...what geforce drivers are you using? I just downloaded the 83.40's off laptopvideo2go.com however have not installed. I'm currently using the 82.12's and they work great with latest patch for Far Cry.... I did notice shadow problems before patching but that was the game....

These multi-coloured spots of yours sound a bit weird....are you overclocking the gpu at all? If so maybe throttle back to default clocks just to make sure you're not getting artifacts from pushing the envelope too far....i'd update your driver first (if it is old) and then slow down the clocks (if you are overclocking).

Hope this helps

cheers

that is whats weird, i am using all of the current drivers and I dont have a serious overclock at all. I run more demaning games just perfectly, i think my oc is at around 400/1200. I will try and reinstall the drivers to see what happens. I downloaded a patch so i dont have to use the cd, could this be it?

No i'm currently using a no-cd fix it's not that. Graphically i'd say Far Cry is pretty damn demanding....before you re-install or upgrade your drivers, set your clock speeds to default and run again...if it is the same it's obviously not that.... but don't re-install the same driver...what are you using anyway? Upgrade to the latest WHQL or directly from nvidia.com with a inf from laptopvideo2go.com

That's what i would try...after that....probably a re-installation of Far Cry (backing up your X:\Far Cry\Profiles\player\X\savegames)

Seems strange all of your other games work fine and Far Cry acts up...maybe reinstall the game 1st before you try anything else I mentioned....if you've got the time....but then again it would probably take the same time to uninstall/reinstall video drivers..

ffs, there was already a thread about this exact same issue not 24 hours before you posted. YES, it is your no-cd patch. Reinstall and play without it, or if you must use it, make sure it's for the exact same version you patch to, and install the nocd only after you've installed the patches.

Alright calm down blahman, thanks for pointing that out, I'm sure the OP is happy too, no need to get ya nickers in a knot though, reposts are always going to be around....yes the thread starters should be having a thorough search before posting, but it's not always effective...if you ask me, the admins are rather more relaxed around here than other forums i am a member of, usually threads like this are merged very quickly*

*Not having a go at the mods at all.

Same problem - Never found a real fix other than if I turn down some of the 'eye candy', the problem goes away.

The Game had Shader 3.0 in the first place didn't it?

btw, i downloaded the no cd fix for v 1.3 and it gave me some image. so i burned the image to a disc, now what on earth do i do w/ it? it appears just to burn a disc of far cry even though the patch was only 25mb.

Usually with this type of image you just mount it on a virtual drive. It should have came with some instructions
