Bloody Routers!

Thread Starter
Help! My Netgear wireless router isn't connecting to the internet at all. All stations on my network can still connect to the router, but unfortunately the router just isn't connecting to the internet. Thankfully, I have a spare ADSL modem lying around, the modem (and by implication) the ADSL line is working fine.

It was working yesterday! No changes to the router have been made since last week or so.

Wash the blood out. It will probably work better afterwords.

Classic indeed.

Try reseting the router, that usually works...
(do not "reset to factory settings"... I meant to say "turn it off, wait a little bit, turn it on again".)

Check your router's logs; you should see any error conditions.

I'm presuming that your WiFi router connects to a DSL modem for internet access? Make sure that it is properly getting assigned an IP address by the DHCP server in the modem.

my Dlink 524 was screwing up with WPAPSK enabled (firmware 1.2 or something) then i upgraded the firmware and ALL the problems went away

with the old firmware the router would

not allow MAC filters on wifi clients (couldnt connect)
hidden SSID will disconnect you
WPAPSK will disconnect you
WEP will disconnect you but not as often
interface was slower than hell

but now its all gone and i get excelent transfer rates

try upgrading your firmware, then do a factory reset, then reset all your settings manually
