IBM Thinkpad battery annoyance

I bought the extra battery for the Ultrabay Slim slot. Unfortunetly there are a couple things that really annoy me.

One is that I can only use one battery at a time and only charge one battery at a time. This is really disappointing since part of the reason I wanted two batteries was to be able to be more efficient in this regard. But I can deal with this.

The other is that the Power Manager program has this annoying desire to drain one battery to 0% before using the other. This is not good for the battery and in the long run will make it wear out faster.

Is there any way around this?

unfortunately not that I know of. The only thing I can suggest is popping the ultrabay battery out when you want it to stop. annoying eh
