Never Again Will I Buy A Sager

Thread Starter
I reported in another thread last year about the one Toshiba drive in my 8890 deciding to fail on me just after the warranty ran out. Now the other night the other one failed. Just over a year old and both drives have died. This is disgraceful considering the money I spent on this. So now I have to buy another drive just to sell this piece of shit.
So this will be my last post here as I will never spend this much money on a laptop again. In fact I am going back to a desktop as its cheaper.

Bye

i was just going to say that..........sorry for your troubles though. personally i think all the dtr mfg'ers need to work on is a radiator coolant system.

Sager is not responsible of hitachi, seagate hard drives ...
Anyway, these companies will change your hard drive within 2 years, i think.
Try to use warranty !

Warranty!!!!!!!

Yeah, both of my Toshibas died too. Guess what - they have 3 year manufacturers warranties.

Sager's still a great machine. In retrospect, I should have sprung for the hitachi hard drives.

Was the 8890 even available from Sager "Just over a year" ago? My Hitachi 7200 rpm drive is still running strong, and I have used my 8890 daily for over 2.5 years now. I think you're blaming the wrong people, but it sounds like you have your mind made up.

I was wondering the same thing. Seems like the 8890 was put out to pasture a bit before that. Didn't it get put down just after the 8790 made it's debut?

Man, I know what it means to see the harddrives die. I know what it means to loose data, even such you earn your money with.

But I also tell you: Never use toshiba harddrives !!! I saw many of them crunching and stuttering.... they are very sensible and quality is crap. There is just one type of harddrives you should use: Fujitsu. You should not feel surprised if a toshiba harddrive says goodbye.....

And do not forget: Clevo/Sager is not responsible for drive´s quality ever.

They may not make the drives, but they are the ones who choose the hdds to put in their computers.

That makes them responsible for the quality of the drives.

... and if it had broken in-warranty Sager would have no doubt taken care of it. Sager makes no promises after the 1 year warranty unless you pay for an extension. So really, I'd either blame the HD manufacturer or the owner for not buying the extended warranty.

Crying about Sager for hard drive failure on a 2 year old machine is silly to me (there is no way he bought a new one 'just over a year' ago). As I remember it the 8890s were retired around December 2003 / January 2004. I remember because it's replacement was the widescreen models and it sort of stung that if I had waited a few months I could have had one of those instead.

Unfortunate that both drives have failed in "just over a year." However, hard drives are generally warranted by the manufacturer for longer than 1 year. Purchasing from Sager entitles one to Lifetime Support, I believe (or is that just PCT?) Long and short of it is, contact Sager; since it's still under mfg. warranty, they might work with you to solve the problem.

I'll never buy a Sager again either

I had the same problem with the Toshiba drive in my 8890.

I ordered a new drive from Sager Tech Support. It cost $100.00 but at least they had the part.

Not like the broken display hinge support I have now. They don't have that part and don't know where to get it, which has rendered my expensive 2 year old laptop useless as a laptop.

Next time I'll buy from a larger "name brand" company. Screw these guys.
