Will Core Duo/X1400 support Vista? - Page 2

mobilewannabe,

You should be fine for Vista. Basically any Direct X 9 compliant card that has at least 64MB of video RAM or something like the GMA series of integrated graphics will run Vista properly.

As to the article, thie same nonsense has been floating around the net for months and repeatedly debunked, like the goofy ones that you need SATA 2 HDD and 256MB vid cards minimum.

Sure hope you are right.

Tomorrow is the day! If anyone has any last words, now is the time.

If I have the time, I will post some writing (probably not a full review though) when I get the laptop in the Acer board.

If you are a student I would get a new laptop and sell and rebuy every year, laptops have pretty decent resale value. You could get a nice one with current gen for the resale price of yours plus a hundred or so bucks. As a student I have been doing this and it has worked.

So, in 1-2 years or so from now, how much do you estimate that the $1500 Acer 5672 pull?

That what I was thinking as well, but coming from a deep desktop background I wasn't sure what the resale business for laptops is like.

Look on ebay for the prices of used donothan systems systems. That should give you an idea. I think if you sell in one year you shoud be able to get $1200 at least. After two years I think the price goes down quite a bit. The for sale and trade forum would be a good place to look too.

The X1400 is not a problem, it is listed as being Vista compatible on ATI's site.

I had a chance to run Vista December CTP on a A64 3000+ w/ Geforce 6100 integrated and 512MB RAM. I wasn't too impressed at all...

Here.

Conclusion? Without Aero Glass, it felt a lot like WinXP. The search features were pretty useless to me since I keep my computer hierarchy pretty well organized. I can't really say anything about the underlying security features, but if the number of system messages mean anything, it's being more 'secure' by putting more of the task on the user.
