CyberP's AW Adventure (and initial review !) Aurora m7700 fx-57

Back early Jan around 1/4 (or just before) my adventure began.......... My wife comes to me and states that she just tried to order my an AW for my birthday, and she is having trouble with the site (our browser not the site's issue), and could I possibly help her ? My jaw hit the floor, then my face hit the ceiling at the same time. OF COURSE, was my instant and automatic answer ! To make the long story short here's how the story unfolds........

1/4 - phase 1 - with AW credit app.
1/9 - phase 3 - all the money bs is out of the way.

here we wait, and wait, and wait ...... somewhere in here I get email that says the cases are on backorder. This is understandable, since I been doing research while waiting and already know everybody is waiting. It's not too bad I know that the screen choice was a delay at order time and now I know why.

1/30 - cases are in and my order moves to phase 5. (yea !!!!)

things slow down again (also understandable, since now I betting the folks at aw are backed up. I also get a bit of fear here since people who are backed up make mistakes and miss things but more on that later)

2/7 -phase 8.............. to phase 10 ! In the morning I phoned aw (actually I had been in close contact with the the whole time IMing, phone, etc.... just to stay in the loop. these folks are great and help as much as they can !) well, anyway, they said my order was fine (site showed phase 5) and really in phase 6 - 7. Later I checked, WOW I was at phase 8, a bit Later phase 9, and that evening I showed phase 10. This was a SHOCKER for me all this waiting then POW ! (also some more warning bells went off in my head but I hit the snooze button on those.....) WOW, phase 5 - phase 10 in one day. one the nice people at aw must have put a rush on my order, since I had been so nice an curtious with them.

2/10 - It's HERE ! Careful unpacking. Fantastic packing job ! I have never seen a system packed any better than this (and I have seen a lot)! First impressions simply put, AWE, WOW, etc (a gleaming jewel "literally"). At this point I can only udder simple words so forgive me. I get the system online. Simply the best comercial op system install I have ever seen. Put a game on it, fantastic !. Only 1 thing I don't like, those damn bright power/comm lights on the screen's bottom ! No biggie just take the SRS sticker and cover them. Ok enough playing get down to testing everthing, OK my final test...... The other CDROM drive (I had been using the top one up to now). Arrrrrghhhhhh, It won't read !!!!!! Shows in system ok, no errors. By this time it's late and I want to get AWCS on this (I have done hardware for years but I want to stick to the warranty).

Next morning...... (Sat 11th)

Spent almost all day with AWCS on phone. These people are very complete in their approach. Somewhere around the second test I knew it was going back. I was hoping for a bad drive (those are easy and don't require the bad nightmare of system separation and withdrawl). I know the tech wanted to try everything first, as they understand the system separation syndrome. OK, now I have thoughts (evil ones) like I can live with one drive etc...... but my brain kicks in and gives me good slap, I want this thing right and this kind of thing happens in stuff this complex. So before I change my mind I quickly box up the system and rush down to fed ex and now it's on it's way to the repair center (in TN I think). I can't wait to get the system back fully functional !

2/11 - onward to AW repair center !

The Adventure Continues........................... (updates to follow)

BLUE LIGHTS IN MY FACE ....... does anybody have a trick to dim them !

Hey Clown

Hey, Pennywise

How do you know it didn't pass ? Shipping could have aggravated my problem.
Well. the way that AW packs their rigs, sort of ensure that nothing short of a plastic explosive could possible hurt your machine in shipment...I will say that is one thing they truly are the "best" at..

And, c'mon guys, you gotta admit that too many folks have issues with their machines as soon as they unpack them for there not to be a serious final instpection "problem" with AW...
I had a couple of things missing from my rig when it arrived, even though all the paperwork, including the "final inspection" paper work showed that they were there...

/OD, are balloons a bad thing??

And wassup with the "Pennywise" stuff?

And here I was think you guys were talking about the band, lol. CyberP did they say what they thought the problem was, or why it couldn't be the drive?

Man, I just realized I've been "hoffed"...

Cyber - thanks for posting. Will let you off the hook on the pics since you had to send it back, but we will DEMAND photos upon return!!! You are a stronger person than I am - I do not think I could have boxed it right back up since everything else was working. BUT, you absolutely did the right thing. Anticipating the update on your system and THE PICS!!!!!!!!
dude, you will get your rig back working and you will forget about this little hiccup. AW like all companys have their problems, but AW will make sure your rig is working when it gets sent back to you.

Once you get it back, do as shazza asked and post some pics and benchies etc.

Why it's not the drive

We swapped the drives and the problem followed the bay not the drive. I was really really hoping for a bad drive. We did not do this just one but many times.

here is some of what they had me do.

re-seat drive.
swap drives in bays.
flash bios.
respawn - I am really impressed with that !
registry diving, we edited some of the drive keys.

The tech on the phone thinks it's a pin out problem on the bay. I'm a bit skeptical on that. I examined the pins on the bay as we were doing the swaps and noticed no anomolies. I feel the problem may be in a riser card or the connector of the bay card (verticle card). At several points I could read audio and dvd data, once we even got data but the drive would never spin up and generated constant error noises.

PS: there will be pics posted once I am clear of this mess ! I have some real good ones !

I have more than memories

I have some pics, I put them in a dvd slideshow(which I have watched dozens of times). I still have to post them yet. (awaiting this drama's outcome so I can put a good and objective review together). The feeling is hard to describe. The fact that the drive was not a show stopper and I got acutally feel the power, see the most perfect LCD screen I have ever touched(I know it's Clevo but I wanted to be under AW's protection and guidance), and the amazing look of the AW case (I know what's under the hood counts more, but it's very cool when the outside matches the inside), makes this whole event a lot harder for me. I only hope the trip and repair does not harm my system's look or operation any more. From what I hear I'm in good hands.

none taken , man...
If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at!

BTW, I have had my aurora 7500 for almost a year now, and its been totally trouble free...I had a couple things missing when it was first delivered, but AW took care of it right away, and its been trouble free ever since..
I have reformatted dozens of times, left it on for ever, overclocked, overheated, and abused the hell out of it, and it still is as nice as it was when I first opened the box...
