New Word On My Status !

I have a much better feeling this time ! I might even be "hearing" the Lady with the horned hat starting to warm up her vocal cords (we will see if she sings soon)!

although my wife is party pooper and does not believe them, she thinks that they did the same thing that guy in Tn did, just chuck a new drive in and call it fix, and for that She just scared the Hell out of me.

I got a PM from Steve !

Good afternoon CyberP,

The optical drive issue has been resolved and it has been Received in Shipping To Ready to be Shipped.

Great new s CyberP. Can AW Steve say exactly what the problem was? Is there any action being taken to prevent these sort of problems creeping through again? After all it got through the 200 point checklist first time on both our machines so there may be a hole in the quality controls there somewhere. I can pass that info on to the techs in Ireland and they can ensure that my new system doesn't have the same problem (or if it is fixable at home, maybe I won't need the new machine after all).

Fingers crossed for you CyberP! Time to hold your breath again

P.S. your wife's concerns are understandable. I think we all had them (are having them)

Well, that statement was all I was sent this time. However, when I got my wife's scare I re-PM'd Steve to ask him to make sure that they did more than replace the drive (because that obviously did not work last time and won't work this time either). But my own internal sense tells me they had to do more, this is the critical issues team that is working with it, I would think they would be more sensitive about these things. Heck, there has to be someone by now who has touched my machine with my suspicious nature, In my repair past I would not believe a fix/problem until I saw it work/not work three times under varoius operating conditions. Once can be a fluke, twice is better but this can be decieving. I found if I could demonstate something with certainty three times in a row I had a fix / cause pinned down. So I am very hopeful this time around with a bit of skepticism thrown in as well, complete trust is going to take me a bit to get back.

CyberP is going into "breath holding mode...." please stand by for system arrival.

Holy Crap (really Holy Crap!)

Holy Crap !

I just came off the AW site and checked my account to see if they posted any parts and all I can keep saying over and over is HOLY CRAP !

1 | PDP SIGNATURE DDR 1GB PC3200 SODIMM
1 | 8X DVD+/-RW NEC ND6750
1 | 8X DVD+/-RW REV 3 PANASONIC
1 | BLUE AMD 17" UXGA+ W/CAM
1 | 8X DVD+/-RW NEC 6650A

I guess they did more than "just replace the drive" holy crap.

holy crap, I have no movie tie in........ holy crap .

I guess shazza is right, I'll have the most tested AW in the universe !

I was told yesterday that the system was in the shipping dept.

that means it's going to be soon

I think, if I read that stuff right, all that's left of my "originial" system is, CPU, GPU, one memory chip and the hard drives.

Hey, as long as it's new/functional, or better than new condition, I don't care what they replace.

Cool CyberP - that's brilliant. I am still waiting for the fat lady to sing though

News Flash......

Got email from Alienware proper, I have real live shipping confirmation !!!! I should be back in the "game" midweek !!!!!!! Things are really starting to move for real now.

With all the hassles I do have to say everyone I have dealt with at AW has actualy attempted to help me. Although none really had the power to do things untill AlienRichard and AlienSteve got invovled. My advice to anyone in my situation is to keep your cool when dealing with the folks on the other side phone, they are there to help you and will try, and to be patient as possible (It's really really hard). If you don't get results then PM the AW guys around here, they are this sites BEST resource !!!! It takes a month to order a high end system. If something goes wrong It can take the same to get repair. It's just the way of things at AW and I really did know that fact up-front (It was not hard to get that information ahead of our purchase) Maybe the new partnership with Dell will cure some of the infrastructural issues. I really don't think Alienware is out to make people get mad it's not good biz (I just think they need an infrastructure tune up......) If they make it so people are not feeling so disconnected from their repairs then they would do better. Or better yet, try to catch more stuff before it leaves the plant.

(The only time I really lost my "cool" was when that drone (Tech) in TN that just would not listen, I hope he has recieved his talking to... He's the only one I'm really mad at through this whole thing. although I'm a bit distrubed about the final check missing the initial problem but I can see it happening.)

Well, no matter what happens this time I know everybody involved did their best and that's all I can ask at this point.

ok movie motivational time !

it will soon be time to "Kick the tires and light the fires !!!!!"

-Indepedence Day just before the first air battle with the aliens !

HURRY UP, ALIENWARE!!!! and FEDEX!!! I'm dyin' here, waiting to see cyberP all happy and jumping for joy.

How long do you reckon it will be before CyberP resurfaces after getting his new system? Once it is on his table I imagine his wife and us NBF'ers won't see him for several days at least

Here's hoping all goes well CyberP!!!

Well, it's slowly making it's way up the east coast. At least it's almost out of the influence of "hurricane land" before hurricane season. During the first repair I woke from a sound sleep with a vivid dream of the AW factory getting taken out with a hurricane while my system was there for upgrades. A very scary dream I assure you. I know the system was in TN for that repair, but it was a wild dream. After it makes it back my wife will "see" me (it's a notebook after all and I can be were she is) but I don't know how much interaction she going to see for a bit. I think she is ready not to hear Alienware this.... Alienware that...... Alienware, Alienware .... etc, out of me every other sentence that I speak.

PS: I think this is the longest "birthday" adventure I can ever remember.

Oh, yea. I forgot to mention you guys. I shouldn't be offline for too long. In fact I'll no longer trap myself in one thread and start living with many new ones ! up to now I think I've only started two threads. (this one and the Dell Acquisition one)

errrr....yep - and thanks for asking

The CS are still waiting on an update from the TS guys. Like you I told them to take their time. Better to have it "late and great" than "quick and sh!t". They are very nice on the phone but I was disappointed to find out that my fave CS rep (Hi Frau König!! ) is leaving AW at the end of March...nevermind. Hopefully the next CS rep will be just as nice.

Current order lag time on the AW.de site is 3 weeks so it could be another week...

How's the parcel coming? Within 50 miles yet?

last word I got from fedex was leaving Orlando, Fla on Sat. If it's anything like time time when they shipped my initial order, I won't see a word until it hits Ohio. That was somewhere around the night before delivery. I guess I'm not as nervous as I was the first time (now just ask me that the night before I get it )(I think having an AW guy around here helped that). Well, once this next couple of days is behind me, it will all be history (I feel pretty good this time around, I don't see dark clouds like I did before). And Here I thought Chudd was the next on the runway.

The Time Machine (SCI FI wisdom)

Question to the Library AI : "Why can't one change the past ?"

Answer from the Library AI: "Because one cannot travel into the past."

-This is the kind of attitude I'm trying to maintain while this final phase is occuring -
