Not ominous at all, In the course of their repairs (with the first case) they tried an NEC burner that was front loading, no tray (but same specs). So I have on the originial "tray" burners and one tray-less front loader. when they rolled over to the other case they were too lazy to put it back. No problem for me I like the mix, the bottom bay being trayless does not interfere with the top, makes audio dj-ing very cool as well. plus the mixed drive combo gives me a "staggered" redundancy so if model specific problems crop up then I'm not trapped into two dud's.

More tests........ and a bench !

I ran Unreal Turney 2004 (FULL MAX SETTINGS) for about an hour.... No ill effects at all.

I ran 3dMark05 raw out of the box settings bench 6802 3d marks.

FYI.

Current system (working) - 900k - black alien head - Better finish - better quality plastic. oval rubber "eyes" nice lower level green leds

Flawed system - 900t - silver alien head - lighter blue crappier paint - cheaper thinner plastic around LCD screen. and base. "squared off" rubber eyes. - blinding blue leds.

It's really cool I got to see both designs, and got the one I like better !

Congrats CyberP!!! Thanks for the info on the cases too. The current system (the defective one that is to go back) is the one with the silver head and the blue "Arghhh I'm blinded" LEDs. I wonder whether the replacement will be the same? I'm not bothered really. I don't know the 900k version and am quite happy with the 900T...and you quickly get used to living with three points of burnt out retina in the lower third of your visual field

Oh, thank goodness. There is a God! Very happy for you, cyberP/

I have the old style with the black head and only the eyes that light up. I remember someone else had the three lights that were green on their's too (old style case though), odd. The blue are very bright, but have gotten used to them and don't even notice anymore unless I look directly at them for a bit. Sounds like things are going good now for you and your happy with it (about time huh, lol).

The default refresh rate for these monitors for some reason is an odd 61hz, while the default refresh for the game is 60hz. All you need to do is go to documents and settings\your name\my documents\battlefield 2\profiles\default folder and open up the video.con file in notepad. You will see where the default is set to 800 x 600 60hz, just change the 60 to 61, save and you should be good to go. Happy for you cyber.

I spoke to AW (Ireland) the day before yesterday and they told me that the replacement system is in production and should be another 5-7 working days. I was told to call them again towards the middle of next week to work out when I should send this limping one back to the mothership.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed - and CyberP's news certainly looks promising for those of us with problem systems. Once again AW shows that they will try and make things right if they can.

I'd start a new thread (instead of hijacking CyberP's ) but I didn't want to be responsible for another "My dud AW lappie" thread. People see them but might not bother reading to the end to see the happy ending. You know, the happy ending where the prince/princess gets the system of their dreams and they both vanish into WoW happily ever after

Yeah, now we need Chudd, to be in the same "happy place" that I'm in right now. (and all the others that got stuck with flawed "T" cases !)

and there's no denying that a sizable group of flawed 900T's got out the door. (I concider single digit numbers to be sizable when the avg system on the high end is ovr 4k and custom built) I can rattle off three systems off the top of my head.... Mine, white dwarf, and Chudd, I know I have read more. I also think it might having something to do with the systems for Yang, msduncan, and others getting bounced repeatedly to phase 5.

I used the "SRS WOW" sticker to cover those when I had my "T" case. I refused to "get use" to being blind. Now I don't need to defile my pretty system. I cannot stress how much better the green is, heck my father saw the lights alone as cause to send the system back.

CyberP I'm soooo glad this machine is working out for you. I've followed your story since I was first ordering mine ages ago.

GRATZ!
