I'm pretty meticulous about keeping my laptop clean, so it's a big mystery.

No chance to take pics because I was too busy waging war on them.

Anything I should be worried about? Fried ant = circut problem?

Stupid bugs!

This kind of crap used to happen when I had my desktop in a house with a huge sugar ant problem. Even though there was absolutely nothing inside my desktop they would want, there was always a trickle of ants coming in and out of it. I never figured out what they were doing in there, but we got rid of the ants over time with a lot of ant poison traps. Maybe they are attracted to the warmth or the electrical noises the circuitry makes (usually inaudible to us humans).

Fire up FEAR or ATiTool for about an hour, that'll be hot enough for the critters to come scrambling outta there. Unless they have nested in there and have eggs.

That actually made me chuckle.

To the OP, I recommend not using Coke to clean your keyboard, the sugar content is too high. Try Sprite instead.

I was sitting on the toilet one day, did my business, got up and turned to flush and saw ants all over the wall behind. They were mostly tiny dark red ones with a few bigguns with wings.

I gather that they were fire ants...

It turns out that they had (somehow) got into the hollow porcelain tank lid and had nested there.

I ended up putting the lid in the shower, pretty much filling it with ant killer and then using the shower head to wash them out.

Haven't had a problem since.

Course, I would suggest that you disconnect the battery and CMOS battery before trying this with your laptop.

Once you finish, a good healthy spray of WD-40 should stop it getting rusty.

Your laptop may not work after this, but I guarantee it will be free of ants.

If it does still work... you may be eligible for Canonisation since this will be a verifiable miracle !

LOL... thanks for the light hearted humor and advice.

It was certainly a surprise to see those black bastards pooring out from under my keys.

I wonder what Dell Technical Support would say on this?
