E1705 with solo and what TV tuner to get.

Hello! New and first post.

I just purchase this item for $1350.00 OTD

Operating System: MS Windows XP Media Center
Processor Name: Intel Pentium M T1300
Processor Speed: 1.66 GHz
RAM: 1 GB 667Mhz
Hard Drive Capacity: 80 GB
256 MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 7800
Optical Drive: Dual-Layer DVD+/-RW
Wireless: 802.11a/g
Screen Size: 17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife

I want opinions, if I did not short change myself by getting a solo instead of a duo. I was also comparing this with the XPS M140, but you can't upgrade the graphics card on that system.

I bought this through Ebay brand new and I think it will cost me a little over $2000 if I went thorugh dell including there discounts. I wanted to get the latest but did not want to pay the hefty price. I think overall it is a good set-up. It definitely is faster than my ibook and I am pretty impress with it's gaming power so far running HULK.

I am more of an apple user, not a stranger to windows but I am a little bit rusted regarding windows technology.

Oh yah! any ideas regarding what tv tuner to get would be great.

I recently bought a 1.83 duo for around 1,500 including shipping. You probably could have gotten a better deal, but I hope you enjoy your machine!

Most of it's in my sig. I got a 60 GB hd though and I didn't get the ultra screen. Really even if you could have saved some money, it might not be that much. There were some good coupons going on when I bought mine. ($650 off)

thank you! like i said, mine would have been around 2k through Dell. I'm happy with my buy. I just wanted to know if the duo is significantly faster than the solo.

I was looking at the Core Solo myself, but ended up going with the Core Duo at the same speed because I felt the price difference was worth the performance gain on a hypothetical standpoint. Seeing a difference from single to dual core will depend primarily on what kind of programs you run.

Well, if the Duo boys would put up their benchmarking scores like I have, we'd be able to tell...

Your config sounds a lot like mine, and I'm happy as all heck with it. I'm still waiting on Dell to ship my Tuner, however so I don't know how good it is.

Hope someone can answer your Tuner question soon, as I may want to upgrade mine eventually.

i got a solo. mainly coz i dont have $$.

i dont do much video /gfx editting, and the 1.66 is plenty fast for games mang!!

i will upgrade later on when the duo chips are cheap and freely available.

My duo hasn't arrived yet but when it does I'll benchmark it out of the box.

Update:

It has been my 4th day with the E1705 and so far so good. I purchase an Hauppage WinTV DVR USB2 with remote athrough dell and it is super. Got it working and set up sooner than expected.

I also found an extra high capacity battery for around $50 brand new shipped directly from dell bu tthrough Ebay.

As far as performance. I have not experience any bottle necks so far and the speed is faster than what I have expected.

I am more of an Apple guy since 96 because of my work but I am impress how far windows has come since then. I just have to be carefull not to get any virus crap.

If you want to watch TV on your notebook wirelessly, get a SlingBox!

Got to learn more about that Slingbox.

Out of topic. Why does my Internet Explorer Images look like low res crap, I don't think it has anything to do with the display because it looks fine on Firefox???? Is there a setting I'm missing?
