Hey, Currently I'm using Adware SE and Spybot for adware and Norton for anti-virus. Is there anything that is better these days?? My norton's kinda a memory hog.

Any help would be much appreciated,

spybot is great. one of the best.

and then in terms of AV....you have AVG which is good (not great), and then there is Avast!. both of which are much lesser hogs than Norton

I use ad-aware and spybot. AVG for anti-virus. AVG is alot less hoggy than Norton.
Make sure you update ad-aware, spybot and antivirus updates/definications and run spybots immunize feature.

You can also use Zone Alarm for your firewall. I don't use one since I'm behind a NAT router.

I like the Windows beta spyware blocker personally. Spybot is nice as it takes the spyware off, but the Microsoft software blocks it too.

I have Ad-Aware for the rare times I actually get something. However with Firefox and the NoScript extension and AVG running on my system, there is never such a time anymore.

i'm using a combo like most people.

for me: spybot, spywareblaster, ad-aware and spyware doctor.

I also use AVG for my virus scanner, and my main browser is Firefox.

This seems to be a pretty good combo for me, and I haven't had any major spyware problems for a while.

I hear MySpace is a good place to collect ad-ware. The Kid's computer here is full of it, and they are constantly checking out 'profiles'...

I use Spybot, Ad-aware, and AVG on all my computers. And for the bad stuff i cannot get rid of, Hijack this, and a few other manual removal tools.

I use the same

AdAware
Spybot
Norton AV corp edition without all that bundled junk
MOzilla for a browser
Keep windows up to date

Some will still get by, but not as bad as some of the computers that I clean up.

Why settle for one?

Download Hitman Pro and get 6 engines... plus its free, one of the engines due expire after 90 days. It even has two virus checkers.

BRAINS...

Nothing personal, but come on, it isn't that hard to just don't click on ADs for free stuff, click NO on requests for installation of stuff and so on and so forth. If you have your OS updated (whatever it is) and has some sense of security, there will hardly be any need for this kind of program.

well i'm not having a huge problem with spyware and I already limit what I click on. I'm also selective in the activeX controls I install but accidents do happen. I just wanted to know if this is the best way to get rid of it if I do have it. Judging from this thread my setup seems decent enough.

Well, Kazaa and some versions of e-mule are really a couple of the best adware programs you can find.

Last time I checked a computer that had problems I found about 50 registry entries and 25 adware programs considered as trojans by the antivirus. The advantage of it is that they will let you download anything you may want.

Ok getting serious now.

The anti-spyware programs I use are Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. You may want to check Zone Alarm's security suite as well and for Antivirus programs you can check Avast and Antivir, they're free for home users and work pretty well in my opinion.

I use AdAware, SpyBot, and Windows defender (new version of MS Antispyware) for spyware. The only reason I even use any of it any more is my wife's failure to use firefox.

For AV, I use Avast. I used to use AVG until I found some stuff it let through undetected.
