Benq makes laptops now as well, just bought one this afternoon and it seems like a good midline/cheap machine. I read that Acer saw that Americans view them as low quality (I know I do) so they created the Benq company to be thier upper-tier products company. A silly move in my opinion but whatever keeps the money rolling in.

A friend of mine has a Clevo laptop. It is pretty good but heavy as hell.

Also there is an other brand missing: Olivetti! I have no idea who makes that one but all of the major components were Toshiba.

That first link I had on page one mentions Olivetti as a rebrander of Chaplet. This site says they started as an electric typewrite company out of (surprisingly) Italy!!! http://www.computerhope.com/comp/olivetti.htm

They seem to be mostly printers now. I see no references to laptops on their site. Another page linked their site as http://www.olivettilexikon.com/ which I was unable to access. www.olivetti.it works, so I reckon they still have roots in Italy.
