6600 128mb vs 6600 256mb

Hi everybody. This is my first post. I've been surfing the forum for a couple of weeks looking for a decent gaming notebook and I finally ordered an m5500 a week back. It's time to ditch the old inspiron 8200.

I have the same specs as most people here, 2Ghz, 1Gb ram, the 1680x1050 lcd etc.. But I ordered the 128mb Geforce instead of 256 like most people. Is there a big difference in performance between the two? My order is in phase 6 right now and I think I can still get it changed if it is worth it. Has anyone done any comparisons between the two?

From the posts and reviews I've read, the 256 is much better in games. Personally I'd go for the 256, but its your money not mine. Also, changing your order will drop you back to phase 3 and you will be put at the back of the line for build. It would be worth the wait.

if i could, i would have gotten the 256MB version. I might get it somehow from AW.

see if you can go back and change it w/ AW the extra time spent waiting for your lappy will be WELL worth it..especially if you frequently play games!
Good Luck!

I also got the 256 right away because it would be worth it getting the best available right now.

hey fizzle.. its really easy to get the upgrade from AW.. you just have to talk to the right people.. i had to pm an AW rep, and he had someone from AW contact me and he was oh so helpful. Heres the info he gave me for the aw51 m5500 systems.. as i dont have a videocard, i looked into both.

128MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go MXM 6600 - $149.07
256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go MXM 6600 - $197.95

Also, he did confirm that your warranty covers labor and shipping, so if your looking to upgrade... all you have to sport is the expensive cost of the card.

Just thought i would add the information i have cause i know alot of people have considered upgradeing their vid card..

good luck

so can we all upgrade to that if we wanted down the line?

i think you can
from all i read u can...
if u don't plan on playing games on high rez (1680x1050), the 128 is more than enough.
if u want to crank everything to max and at that rez, the 256 is for u!
i heard read that the 7600 release date is sometime in april+? and i've read from several pple in this forum that u will be able to upgrade to it using the m5500

Yeah the reason why I got the 128mb in the first place was because I wanted to get the 7400 eventually. So anyway I called alienware to get it changed (it was saying phase 5 online) but the guy said it was already being packed for shipping. And that was only like a day or so after I posted here.

I'll keep the 128 for right now and hopefully it should be good enough as I only play Warcraft 3 and CS.

Thanks for the replies. Fedex tracking says I should get it in 2 days!
