it was one of the smaller ones. Sorry, I can't remember. But if I had to do it again I wouldve just kept all the partitions alone and just reformat the large Windows operating system partition. My advice is to leave the smallest partition alone and just reformat the large one... and possible the 2nd largest one (the restore image partition) depending on how much space you want to free up.

thats what i was thinking about doing. i might call dell up and find out exactly how big the media partition is just to be on the safe side. but the restore partition is getting wiped for sure

Here is a partial answer to my earlier question:

The media-player functionality can come in handy if, for example, your kids want to watch a movie in the backseat or you want to listen to a CD on a flight. Playing CDs and DVDs without Windows booted should also result in longer battery life.

Yep, thats the way to do it... the way nucomer describes. Dells instructions in the PDF are bogus.

*note: step 10 in nucomers instructions are optional

I disagree! Just last night I completed a total wipe-out of my hard drive and a new installation of WindowsXP and Suse Linux 10.0 (dual boot) on my Insprion 630m. I wanted to preserve the MediaDirect feature. I followed Dell instructions and can report that everything works! For more info, see my write-up on the mentioned Dell forum. I do not understand why people seem to have so many problems with this. Was my experience just a fluke?

Kudos to Dell for extremely fast shipment of the missing CDs (including MediaDirect Reinstallation CD). I spent maybe 15 minutes on Dell Chat (this includes wait time); gave them the part number for MediaDirect CD, the rep confirmed the order and asked about any other ones I would need. I asked about CyberLink DVD and Sonic; both were added to the order without any questions. I requested the items about 10:00 am on Wednesday; they were in my house around 1:00 pm the following day. Quite amazing!

Can you install Media Direct on a I6000? I'd love to have that to just play music without going into the OS. Do the 9300/E1705 have a button that launches the partition or does it work just by pressing the play button on the front?
