On monday my cmos battery died, turned laptop on before going to class and it was workin fine. Came back 4 hours later to the fan running (mind you only thing running is windows) and the screen is black with lots of text on it. I think it was the windows was not shut down properly screen but the text was off center, with random spaces. I was a bit confused cause windows was running when i left and now it wasnt. So I pushed the power button down till it shut off and booted it back up. While it booted up i noticed the bad checksum at the bottom of screen. Then i got to the windows was not shut down properly and selected start windows normal (this time the text looked fine). So laptop reboots and again takese me to that same screen again. Still caught the bad checksum again so i figured i'd just reset the cmos. Shut laptop down and removed cmos battery for a few minutes. Put cmos battery back in and windows boots up this time but the date and time aren't right (i expected that). So I set up the time and date and about a minute later, i get the BSOD. So I reboot computer to see if it boots again and if time and date remain set or if they reset. They reset. So I know my cmos battery is dead now. Here's where i get curious, my laptop's fan hasnt turned on in a day and my hd is running at 113F on idle. Fan will turn on if I go to run a game, but other than that it is off. Before my cmos died, fan would come on even if I opened up winamp. I just can't see the cmos battery dying affecting weither my fan runs or not. Any words of input anyone?
