Early Impressions of my NEW M3400

Hey everyone just received my rig today at approximately 12:30pm. I was extremely excited to open up the big black box and uncover what was inside. I first opened up the smaller box which held my accessories such as the messenger case and the bluetooth usb adapter. The quality of the bag is absolutely fantastic. The bluetooth adapter was way smaller than expected which was a good thing.

After drooling over the case for a few minutes I moved onto the alienware box and first discovered all the cd's, such as the OS and Support CD and also found a demo of F.E.A.R. and Swat. I was thinking to myself why include this with a system that isnt meant to play PC games, I continued on and opened up a smaller black box which was the laptop itself. I was shocked at the size of the thing, very small and compact. The weight was great and felt just right on my lap. I popped the battery in and plugged the AC adapter in and turned the laptop on, it started up quickly and easily. Luckily I see no dead pixels thus far which is great. The screen itself is stunning. I didn't have any benchmark software installed and I couldn't log onto the AW support site to download it so I couldn't get you guys any scores. After installing all my anti-malware software I took a look over at the F.E.A.R. demo and said "heck, why not give it a shot." I installed the demo and to my surprise is booted right up, one thing I did notice was how slow the graphics were processed though. After getting a little bit into the first level the game crashed and sent me back to my desktop, that'll be the last time I try running a graphic intense game like that. I ordered this laptop with the built in camera and must say it's pretty nice quality. Let's see what else, the wireless card seems great, as a matter of fact it picked up signal apparenty from a neighbors house and had a great signal strength. That just goes to show how good that is. Lastly, and to some, one of the most important things the sound. For me the sound is more than adequate for music, then again me being a first time laptop owner I just may think the sound is good because I have nothing to compare it too.

I think I just about covered all my initial impressions. Since I'll be going away on business and wont return home till the 26th that's when I'll have to work on a full review with pictures to go along with it. The review could possibly be up sooner than that too. In the meantime if anyone has any questions I'll be more than happy to answer them.

fear demo is nothing like the game, the demo is bugged up to fux if i remember correctly, and it is also a lot slower and stuttery than the proper game.

Yes, we'd all like to see some photo's!

Have you tried the instant-on cinema yet? All of us are eager to hear exactley how long the battery lasts.

What is the boot time from power off, to start menu working?

There is no instant on feature on the m3400 at least not on mine.
My battery power only lasts for like 2 hrs. when running everything i need to run including the wireless, havent tested what the battery power is with my wireless off and such.

Yeah, there is no instant-on cinema on the 3400 model. I will get the boot time to you guys later tonight. I'm also going to be working on the review today also hopefully, so I may be able to get that out too.

I did, like I said I tried the demo of F.E.A.R. that came with the system (not really a big pc gamer) and it ran, not smoothly but then eventually crashed. I saw you saying you'd like to play WOW on in and I'm sure that is very possibe because its not as graphic intense as F.E.A.R.

ahhhh heavy c provided a very interesting article to me...http://www.intel.com/cd/ids/develope...1974.htm?prn=Y
supposed to be a solid integrated graphics solution comparable to several dedicated gpus!
also as som epple above have stated, the \fear demo is especially choppy/slow-prone. just wanna see what this lil thing can do! apparently gaming isn't as far fetched as it seemed. it wuld b cool to see some m3400 users to push their machines hoopefully i'll have the guts to order one soon
