Power Jack replacement problems on Sony Laptop Help.

Thread Starter
I am having problems replacing the jack on an older Sony Laptop PCG-FX150 (PCG-953A). The problem with the Laptop was a loose jack. I would have to wiggle the connector to get the laptop to come on. So I ordered a new jack. After I soldered the new jack in place I am not getting any power at all. I tested the bottom of the jack plug and it is getting power with a volt meter. Do you think I could have damaged something in the solder process or that the solder is not making a good connection?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

These need to be soldered on the top side for the positive pin.. Directly between the Inductor and the jack.. (White square block just rear of the jack).. The positive trace goes from the jack to the inductor.. Look close.. If you need more help just yell.

There are 3 small circles in front of the inductor on the trace to the jack. Do I need to solder the positive jack to this also?

Thanks,

Eric

Just solder the positive pin to the trace on the top side of the board.. You dont even need to pull the board out just look close. (Positive is the rear pin on the DC jack)..

Yes....in order to fix the power jack for your Sony FRV or FX150 laptop. In most all laptops you have to completely disassemble it. I would recommend that if the jack is loose that you DO NOT try and operate it. You can cause damage to the PCB assembly. DC power jack repairs and or laptop power connector repairs are needed at the point that the laptop starts cutting out or switching to battery power randomly. If you need further help or futher questions.....Please email me and I'll help you >
