Anyone run a Geforce Go 7800 GTX on Dell or Apple 30"

I can't get it to go up to the max res of the monitor. I am using 81.94 drivers. Max res I can get is 1280 by 800. According to Nvidia's website:

Advanced Display Functionality

* Dual integrated 400MHz RAMDACs for display resolutions up to and including 2048x1536 at 85Hz
* Dual DVO ports for interfacing to external TMDS transmitters and external TV encoders
* Full NVIDIA® nView® multi-display technology capability

I don't know about the apple...but the dell says it requires 2 DVI ports in order to run at full resolution, and I haven't seen any laptops with 2 DVI ports on them...its my understanding though that the apple one (at least as of late) only requires 1 DVI port so like I said, don't know about that one

It can run on a single DVI port. Desktop 7800 GTX cards have the correct port for this but I have not been able to find anyone who has done so with a mobile card.

I had the same problem as you with my laptop DB. Only had the monitor for two days before it moved on to its new home, so didn't get to mess much. Tried 4 different drivers and still ddn't work. You might want to read over at the hardocp forums, and widescreengamingforum.

For users of widescreen high-end liquid crystal displays (LCDs) the only choice among the premium graphics cards, are solutions by ATI Technologies: even though they consume more than the product by Nvidia, the latter does not support dual-link DVI (there are a couple of exceptions: certain graphics cards by Pny and Evga do sport a special dual-link TMDS transmitter and thus dual-link DVI), which is required for resolutions higher than 1600x1200 at 60Hz on LCD for monitors with digital connectors.
From this article at X-bit labs referring to the 7800GTX 512.

You need a dual link DVI interface (which is one special port), which you won't find in any laptop graphics cards (its only currently found in a higher end desktop cards)

The max resolution of the ACD is larger than 2048x1536 anyway.

I thought the 7800 Go GTX was basically the same as teh desktop counterpart

Except for at least the Macs:

Apple notebooks are ready to connect as well, whether you have a new MacBook Pro with the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 or a 15- or 17-inch PowerBook G4 with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700. Designed specifically for the dual-link DVI connection, these graphics cards support awe-inspiring 2560-by-1600 resolution.

Not sure I follow. Didn't read the article yet but I don't buy that nvidia can't support over 1600x1200. I know that my two XFX run my 24" at 1920x1200 without a problem. I've seen this topic many times, guess it's time to go back and read up on them. Keep us informed with the outcome DB.

Dual link is not a special feature of the core, you can modify pretty much any current graphics card to have dual link DVI dvi or not (there is a dual link Radeon 9600 for example) so the fact the desktop 7800GTX has dual link DVI is irrelevent.

Yep, the article is incorrect - technically 1600x1200@60Hz is meant to be the maximum for a single link DVI interface but with reduced blanking that goes up to 1920x1200.

So is it correct that a GeForce Go 7800 GTX can output 1920x1200 (16:10 aspect ratio) to a dell 24" lcd for example, but cannot run higher resolutions since they require dual-link DVI?

My panasonic LCD tv is "only" 1280 x 720 resolution so that wouldn't be an issue outputting via dvi to that tv. I do plan on getting a Dell 24" LCD someday though so I hope that 1920 x 1200 rez output isnt a problem on the GeForce Go 7800 GTX.

I'd still be interested to find out if you ever get higher resolutions on it though.

1900 by 1200 works on my former Sony 23" and Apple Cinema Display via the 7800 go Gtx

It does work fine going out to the dell 24" at 1920x1200.

I can tell you phat arses biatches look almost lifelike on the 30" monitor . . . well, u should need two 30" monitors in dual mode with one cheek on each monitor . . .

If you get one of those monitor spliters, and some VGA to DVI adaptors, you can do it. You have to have 2 DVI ports though, just because that's how Dell made it.
