Is this a great deal to go for right now?

There will be better soon?

Would also like to here from those of you who already own the 9400... Worth each penny?

Great deal!

This is a really good deal, would be better with a BlueTooth module.

Better to just buy that off eBay...even if you need it. It's a simple installation on the 9300/XPS...

i have no idea what pounds converts to in dollars, but that seems like a good price for a laptop that has not been out long.

the upgraded hard drive should be nice.

1,200GBP sounds good, but when you convert it it's north of two grand US. In fact, closer to 2100 (2,097.0071).

Thinking I should snap this offer up.

So, the 9400 is pretty new? since when? It will be some time before a 9500 turns up?

That's what happened last time. I bought a 8200 and the next week there was this 8500 on the dell site.. argh

Released In UK in late january.

Dougie.

While $2000 is a lot, unfortunately it's priced that way because we get screwed on tax over here in the UK. 17.5% to be precise. It's one of the major reasons I don't like living over here (I'm from the U.S.). Everything is a complete rip-off, and the average person here doesn't get paid great money to afford these luxuries. Still, for the money, you won't get a better laptop for the price in the UK.

I have the i9400, and believe I got a quality laptop for my money. I don't regret it one bit, and I paid £1,306 for mine.

One recommendation...upgrade to the 9-cell battery if you are planning to take this laptop on the go. For a paltry extra £15, it's well worth the extra battery time you'll get out of it.

All sounds pretty good so far,

I've been reading a lot of "light leakage"

Whats this?
Light leakage basically refers to the issue with these types of laptop displays bleeding a bit of light through the screen. Some people don't have much of this, while others have quite a bit. I only notice it on my 9400 when the screen is completely dark (black), such as during bootup or while watching a dark, widescreen DVD. You can reduce the issue quite a bit by changing the display settings (like brightness and gamma), which helps a lot. I don't really notice the problem, as I really only use it for web-surfing and gaming. You won't notice light leakage at all during those times. Display is gorgeous and vibrant/colorful. Dell UK seem to be only using Samsung screens now, which is a good thing (they seem to have the least light leakage for this kind of display).

One other thing about the display that you should know....with this being a wide-screen display, you will need to change the font dpi setting to 96 (Windows default is 120, which is too high). Otherwise, you'll get 'jaggy-looking' fonts when you surf the net, which looks terrible. Changing it to 96 dpi fixes it completely.

US Dell customers get these kind of super deals. If I was US consumer I would be getting a massive 650 USD off... OMG.

I feel ripped if I was to go for my original deal.

UK Dell have no friggin coupons?

Thanks, this thing about the screen leaking light doesn't sound too good

Yeah, it does suck that there aren't any coupons over here.

As for the light leakage, you're gonna get that with any 'Trubrite', 'Truelife', etc. screen out there. They are all similar technology.

I'm going to the US for 3 weeks in the summer.

Do you think it'd be possible for me to order a lappy whilst I'm there and bring it back to the UK?

Too sneaky??

If I was to spend 1300 pounds now, I'd feel totally ripped, TOTALLY.

agree, no such deals here in malaysia, even when all the notebooks are esembled here.....
mine was priced near U$ 2.400 after rebates, also thanks to the freakin' high taxes 16% plus import (i couldn,t get oe from ebay). But for europe i think it's pretty good. If you wnat to get an idea in the US a fully loaded mazda 6 would sell for under U$30000 in here it would price over U$35000 with less options. and mos thing are like that i feel ripped off everytime i cannot buy somthings online with us prices. lol

Unfortunately, unless you have a U.S. credit card and a U.S. billing address, there is no way you will be able to do that. If you have a friend/relative who lives in the States, you might be able to do it if it's someone you trust with your money. If so, I would order it as far in advance to your vacation as possible, so you're not sweating the delivery date.
