Just checking the FTP website of Acer to see if they have any updates and saw this new one dated today. (10/2/06) downloaded it and it seems to be the new Driver for the NIC problem that so many have been experiencing. Props for Acer/Intel doing somthing so fast.
check it out ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/note...e_8200/driver/
Its called intel_eeprom.zip

I'm a newb

I downloaded these new drivers, but have no idea how to use them. The instructions are a bit technical for me. Can someone give me a link or maybe explain how to update my ethernet nic with this?

Help with EEPROM

Ok, I solved the problem. It took quite a bit of reading, but here is basically what anyone on the 8204 needs to do:

1. Unzip the file.
2. Open a command prompt.
3. CD to the unzipped directory.
4. Run the command eeupdatew32.
5. This will give you the list of ethernet adapters that can be updated. Mine looked like this:
1 3 00 00 8086-108C Intel(R) PRO/1000 PM Network Connection

use the second and third value and run this command
eeupdatew32 /BUS=3 /DEV=00 /DATA TEKOA_A3.txt
6. Restart you computer.

That did it for me and my ethernet card is working great now.

how did yall find this fix? was it posted by acer?

I called Acer to get support and they suggested I send it in for repair or return it.. I'm like WTF?? I just got the dang thing!! Jeez.. At that point I'm like whatever, thats pure BS!! So I found the issue here and tried the fix.

All i know is that it seems to be working! My 8204 is not even 2hrs old, and the first thing I tested was the NIC.. sure enough, it had the drop out issue. I installed this eeupdate and its looks much better now!

thanks guys!

Hi ramstryke, my Laptop was 1 hour old :-), but I did the same intel eeprom fix, and my Problem is solved.

The support won't do anything else, because the two people from support told me that :-)

Btw if you want help Acer Support is the last place to go. their people know nothing about it. Problem Ohh i think we should have a look at that. i mean surly Acer would tell the support team what is wrong with their production laptops.. But meh. When in doubt Google it

Fix worked for me too! Thanks, great instructions!

Could anyone simplify the above directions even further for a novice?

I unzipped the file. I opened a command prompt. But think I am stuck on "CD to the unzipped directory". How do you "run the command eeupdatew32?"

Could anyone post a step by step for dummies?

The Acer US site has the NIC fix now too. It's actually the only download. I'm a bit disapointed that it's taken the US site so long to get it. You'd think they would have just as many drivers in the download section as the Euro site. I wonder if there's a difference. Probably not. They sure did update the RAM verbage aweful fast, maybe they should get the same web team on the downoads section

Here it is.
I compared the files between the US and Euro site, they are the same. Extra PDF came in the US zip.
They are the same, but I posted it because the process appears to be a step or so simpler and I know some were struggling with the process to make the update.

Thanks for the post. I figured out the US version. If anyone need help PM me.

Your welcome. Glad I could help.

I'm sure I'm doing something stupid here but I get "the system cannot find the path specified" when I enter chdir c:\intel_eeprom

As far as I can tell I have extracted all the files and double-clicked install.bat (but how do I know I've done that right?).

Anybody care to post a total idiots guide?
Don't have time for a copmlete guide. Just make sure you're are typing to the write directory (where you extracted the files to, that shoud be the same file that you executed install.bat) And also be mindful of the letter case and you shouldn't have any problems.

intel_eeprom.zip removed

I just bought this nice laptop myself!

I read about the gigabit lan problem AND the solution, so I didn't think it would be anything to care about...

But now "intel_eeprom.zip" is suddenly missing from all Acers sites?!?

Could anyone post a link to their downloaded file, or a working link to Acer?

Thanks in advance,
