Thread Starter
Hi Guys,

Wondering if anybody here know about http://www.cashforlaptops.com, I am trying to sell my laptop and found this site in process.

Can I trust this site?, does anybody used this site before?.

Thought this could be general discussion, if not please move it to whatever forum it belongs to.

Thanks.

Wow........

They just offered me $350 for my 8600. I'd better get it boxed up real quick, NOT! There are plenty of people that are desperate for quick cash that will probably use this service but certainly not me. What scares me a little is that this could turn out to be nothing more than a fence for stolen computers. I'm sure they probably do some kind of numbers check but I'd be willing to bet that sooner or later, some poor guys stolen computer may end up in their hands, kind of like fleabay. Just my .02 though.

Its a piece of sh!t laptop that doesn't power up, no battery, nothing. Its a paper weight basically. If they don't pay me, I won't be out anything.

I'll let u know if they actually pay me.

I realize all the above posts are really old, but I was looking for information on www.cashforlaptops.com as I had a good Toshiba Satellite M45-S169 which suddenly wouldn't power on. After getting some advice and getting it tested, the motherboard turned out be the most probable cause. I went for cashforlaptops, and have shipped them the laptop. Right now I'm waiting, and hoping they'll hold their end of the deal for the quoted $200!! It's been 3 days so far. Will post an update so others can benefit from my experience (hopefully a good one)!

Hi Kiran,
They paid me the $215 they qouted me but they had to resend me the check because the first one they sent never made it.

So don't be too shy to send them an email (but give it a couple of more days at least though).
I waited for 2 weeks and then contacted them.

They told me to wait another week and if it didn't show up they would send me a new one.

To their credit, when I cobtacted them the following week they overnighted the second check even though I didn't ask them to.
I was just happy to get paid at all for that piece of crap I sent them.

I just wanted to put your mind at ease and not worry too much. They are legit.

Cheers.

As long as you don't send them a business laptop it looks like they offer you a pretty good deal. I did a quote on a functional Latitude D Series and they said $90 on their estimator. I could get more than double that from a pawn shop for my D820 if I was hard up for money.

Double $90 for a Core 2 Duo model? I'd think you could get 10x that amount!

I know! i did the same thing, and they spit out $88 for a D420. WTF? I just for fun put in my Asus S5n (though they do not have Asus listed) and got $225, and my old Compaq Evo N400c was $0.

The reason cash for laptops doesn't like business model laptops near as I can figure is that VERY few of us actually purchase these things new. Those of us with Business class laptops we purchased new are an extreme minority. The Majority of business model laptop owners purchased the laptop 2nd hand off lease. Not only that but business laptops are typically abused. So for Cash for laptops it's risky to take a business laptop for more money than that because they could be getting into a system that has changed hands once or twice already and a system that possibly was abused when it was in a corporate fleet. It's the same reason used fleet cars bring a fraction of a privately owned used car.

Thanks, Studio54, for the encouragement. I did indeed receive a check for $200 earlier this week. I haven't diposited it yet, but it's gotta be legit. My experience wasn't bad at all--they shipped the empty box the next day, and I received updates throughout the process. The check took a few days, but their service was pretty good overall.

Avoid Cash for Laptops!

I was excited to get decent offers for two laptops (a Toshiba and a Compaq) when I entered all my information on Cash for Laptops' website. They were prompt in sending the packaging for us to mail in the laptops, but after that, everything went downhill.

Once they received the laptops, they sent an email saying there were cosmetic flaws (such as normal wear on the keyboard) that would detract from the value of the quote. Well, you'd think that if anything was deducted from the quote for such minor flaws, it would be a small amount. Not so. They changed their offer to less than half of what was quoted. Further, one of the flaws they mentioned didn't even exist. They said the Compaq (which was in great shape) had a loose screen, but it definitely wasn't.

When I told them their offer was too low, it took them a few days to respond. After a week of waiting, the laptops were finally sent back. When we received them, they were packaged VERY poorly (no foam or bubble wrap at all). Both computers were also in the same box, making the packaging an even bigger issue. The Compaq had scratches on it that weren't originally there, however, the screen was still perfectly stable, like it was when it was sent in. Another issue was that one of the power adapters we sent in was replaced with a different one when they returned the computers. I'm not even sure if it works yet.

Long story short, this company is not trustworthy and will find ways to try to pay you less for your laptops than they quote. They also have no regard or respect for people's belongings, which is apparent in their return process/packaging. Save yourself time and hassle and find another company to do business with.
