DVD Encoding

When I try to encode a DVD with dvd shrink it starts at a horrendously slow rate of 1500 kb/s and tops out at 1900 kb/s. Before I could achieve a full 4.3 GB encoding in 10 min 30 seconds with my pin-modded 2.13. Now it'll take an hour. The problem is that during the encoding, the cpu load is still around normal use 2-30%. Is there a way I can speed it up. I don't know what I did. Super Pi still takes 40 seconds to calculate 1M so I know it isn't the processor's fault.

Bump. This problem is affecting more than one person besides me.

I have seen this problem before but not on any of my machines. My roommates comp just sits right are 2000k/s for the entire DVD with all encoding programs with his 16x dvd drive and my 8x dvd drive in my laptop gets up to about 6000k/s by the end. I'll try to find something out about it.

It sounds more like the DVD drive's fault than anything related to the encoding process. It's burning at less than maximum speed. Maybe you should use highest quality DVD discs and see if it helps? Some discs can be pretty poor quality.

sounds like some of the problems are because the dvd drive is "rip-locked". firmware limits dvd transfer rates to discourage ripping dvds. You may be able to find a hacked firmware version to disable this "feature".

Although this is likely not the situation in the original posters case since his drive apparently had no problem before. Unless he upgraded his drives firmware recently.
