Sorry ACER 8204 - You're going back!

Well, I am one of the unfortunate ones that has the ethernet adapter that doesn't work. Nothing I have tried has been able to fix it and I just got my shipping label from www.costcentral.com so I'm afraid it's going back. Not sure if I will replace it or not because I'm not real happy with the LCD quality. Too dim for my eyes.

I was hoping that ACER would address this issue quickly, but since they aren't in any hurry to keep my money, I'll take it back.

I'm under the impression that the EEPROM was for the wireless, not the ethernet connection?

was for the LAN

...Did you try to put the computer in stand by then re-power? That worked for me.

I am in the same boat. Not sure if this is the right screen for me. It is too dim and horrible viewing angles. On top of that, I am having a hard time with the high resolution. This is my first widescreen, and, my first high res screen. I have been using 1024 x 768 for so long, very hard to get use to everything being so small. I have played around with the DPI display settings and that made some things a little better but some programs don’t scale correctly and that makes them unusable.

Nope it was for the NIC issue that we've ben having problems with. Also i think if you return to get it fixed they do the exact same thing.

i went to comp usa today and saw the Acer 4200 I think, and it was next to a core duo Sony vaio, is the 8204 the same screen dimness as the 4200? The sony one was ultra bright.

Yes, after powering it up tonight, the screen is just to dim. I just can't believe how dull it is compared to my T43p which I think is just average.

I'm packing it up and sending it back.

There are a lot of things you can do in the color settings from the ATI catalyst control panel to brighten it up and saturate the colors. If the fonts are too small get to the appearance tab by right-clicking on a blank part of the desktop and select large fonts.
