Monitor.exe

Thread Starter
I noticed my computer running very slowly after I reboot it,

I looked at processes and something is taking 100% of CPU resources, I then reorganized all the processes by CPU usage and found Monitor.exe all the way at the top.

Quitting this process CPU went back down to 2 % of what ever the norm is.

Has anyone has this problem. According to monitor.exe it belongs to e-management / recovery.

Could it have been a AV scan?

LoL! Something tells me that MS didn't quite get this right.....

Description:
monitor.exe is a service which is a part of the Microsoft Server operating system, and is specifically related to monitoring hardware components for performance bottlenecks.

Something that is looking for "Performance bottlenecks" which eats up your sys resources?

Unfortunately, it could also be a worm.....

W32.HLLW.Shower.J

Which is known to use "Monitor.exe" as one of its drop files.

A quick and dirty Google would seem to suggest that there is a marked difference between "monitor.exe" and "Monitor.exe", with the latter possibly indicating one of a string of infections.

My advice would be to ensure that your AV software is fully up to date, boot into safe mode, and run a complete scan of your system. If this doesn't show anything then you are probably ok.....maybe.....although I would still try running a second scan (possibly an online one) to be sure as the process name doesn't seem to fit the profile for the legitimate MS service.

Not sure if that helps at all, hope it does though.

Try and find the path to the file to see where it resides.

If its in a Acer dir somewhere, the it should be fine.

You may want to look at the e-recovery settings withing the program, to turn off background monitoring etc - i dont use it so cant tell you exactly what or where the setting is.

Good luck
Nath.

last i heard, the monitor.exe is used by the acer erecovery service. if you disable monitor.exe in msconfig and your eRecovery (Alt+F10) stops working than you know thats it!
