8204 - Is nobody happy? - Page 2

I'm loving mine. I agree for this level of notebook they should have put a "Top of the line" screen. But it's far from the worst I've ever used and isn't bad considering.

I've been hooking it up through the DVI to my 21" Gateway HD Monitor. It's wide screen and the same exact res as the 8204 so it'e makes it even better. Games look incredible on it. Just short of my wish for the screen to have a few more notches of brightness, I have zero problems and am glad I bought it. I have been in situations where I have sent a notebook back three times switched vendors, heck, I've had 2 different makes in route to me with a different notebook RMA'd and heading back to where it came from. So I'm not the type to just "settle" for something. I'm truly happy with the 8204.

I keep reading more and more about the LCD being so poor, and I just can't see it (no pun intended). I'm running right now on battery, at 40% brightness, and it's fine--and, my eyes are getting older and, I hate to say, weaker each passing day.

i think the 8200 screen is fine. same panel as the TM8100, and the Ferrari 4000, and same as the AL2032 Monitor. The widescreen takes some getting used to, but other than that is fine. Of course my eyes are still young and sharp as a spoon!

czm...so, you are only using an external monitor? Your laptop LCD doesn't seem dull, unsharp, uncrispy?

Mark,

I use the 8204 screen all the time. All day every day at work (plus I'm using the dual display at work with another LCD) and I us it at home when I'm down stairs or in my recliner. When I'm gaming or watching a movie, I use the 21" HD monitor because I like to use a regular keyboard and that would put me too far away. Plus I get a bit involved/commited when playing and I actually broke some keys on my Toshiba S505 a few years back. Ever since I use a regular keyboard. Little easier to replace should I go a little overboard

Besides, if you had a 21" screen, which would you game on (that was a ritorical question)

Mark,

Sorry, a bit sleep deprived. Up past 2:00AM (BF2 ) Also, to answer the rest of your question. The screen is great. Better everyday actually. My brother just left, he came over to show me WOW which I never got into. The screen of my old laptop which I loved was right next to mine. The difference was minimal (except for the golss of course). The 8204 screen is sharp and very crisp. I really have no problems with it at all. I feel bad for anyone who does as I've been in that situation before. Anyway, just wanted to answer the other part of your question.

Good luck.

Sager days

I remember when I shelled out 3000 plus for my Sager 5660 and I was mad when there were a few stuck pixels.

But the most aggravating thing was that the CRT output was defective on all 5660s and 5670s, meaning it had low CRT output and the result was really dim on an external monitor no matter how much you tweaked the screen and driver settings.

I don't suspect that the screen on the 8204 is as dim as I saw the external monitors on the Sager 5660/5670. And probably not as dim and busted up during the dying months of my laptop.

Wow; I also have the 8104WLMI and I really like the screen. Are you saying that the 8204 screen is not even as good? I thought I read that someone else said that it was brighter than the 8104?
