I'm loving mine. I agree for this level of notebook they should have put a "Top of the line" screen. But it's far from the worst I've ever used and isn't bad considering.
I've been hooking it up through the DVI to my 21" Gateway HD Monitor. It's wide screen and the same exact res as the 8204 so it'e makes it even better. Games look incredible on it. Just short of my wish for the screen to have a few more notches of brightness, I have zero problems and am glad I bought it. I have been in situations where I have sent a notebook back three times switched vendors, heck, I've had 2 different makes in route to me with a different notebook RMA'd and heading back to where it came from. So I'm not the type to just "settle" for something. I'm truly happy with the 8204.

when playing
and I actually broke some keys on my Toshiba S505 a few years back. Ever since I use a regular keyboard. Little easier to replace should I go a little overboard
(that was a ritorical question)
) Also, to answer the rest of your question. The screen is great. Better everyday actually. My brother just left, he came over to show me WOW which I never got into. The screen of my old laptop which I loved was right next to mine. The difference was minimal (except for the golss of course). The 8204 screen is sharp and very crisp. I really have no problems with it at all. I feel bad for anyone who does as I've been in that situation before. Anyway, just wanted to answer the other part of your question.
