Well, my 8600 is on its way to me as of 9:00 last night. I'm excited! If anyone's interested, I can post my impressions and some pics here of it when it arrives. (Anyone know a decent free place I Could host some pics at without goofy bandwidth restrictions like Tripod or Geocities?)

Hi daroga,
Im pretty close to getting a dell inspiron 8600, Im just wondering if I am ask you a quick question seeing as you have just ordered one.

How long did it take dell to ship your order after you initially purchased it? Their preliminary ship dates and the delay breakdown on their website doesnt match up that well!

Thanks,
holr

holr,

It went down like this:
I called Thursday night (January 8th) and ordered.
As of Monday the 12th it was being tested.
Tuesday the 13th is was in the "boxing" stage and reamined there till Thursday night when it was "shipped"
UPS actually got the package on Friday and it went out that morning.
That brings us to today (Saturday). UPS says right now they'll get it to me in Minnesota by Monday so we'll see.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you'd like any more info!

Its safe to assume Dell exxaggerates there delay times from anywhere from 5-10 days of there total shipping time

It would seem that way. I was originally told that I would get it anywhere between the 21st and the 23rd. While it did ship right when they said it would (the 16th), it ought to get here a full 2 days before the earliest date they predicted.

Yes, they usually arrive well beyond the expected date.

Believe it or not, my first order arrived in 3 business days and I chose ground shipping too. I ordered Thursday night, it was already in boxing stage by Friday afternoon and still showed boxing stage even when I received the following Tuesday!

But this 2nd time around with the WUXGA, I got it in about a weeks time.

Repair times are extremely exxaggerated recently i needed my SHARP WUXGA replaced and the estimated ship time for a replacement part was 5-10 business days. Although i recieved a refurbed part which is indistinguishable from the real thing it arrived the next day.

Did they send you the screen personally? Do you have the at home warranty or the mail-in? I'm wondering if I'll be able to get parts sent to me even with the 3 year mail in (with complete care) as I think I'd be competent enough to handle most repairs myself.

Thanks!
Tim
