MOBO replaced - mic recording not working?

I just got my 9880 back after the a/c to d/c on the mobo failed (wouldn't run on a/c anymore and wouldn't charge the battery.) So they replaced the mobo. Now when I try to use the built-in mic, I get nothing recorded (using either sound recorder or MSN messenger.)

I've also plugged in an external mic and switched supposedly to that external jack but still nothing.

My flrst question is, does the external mic jack and the built-in mic use the same chip so that perhaps it's something wrong on this replaced mobo?

Also curious if the replaced mobo is a refurb or new?? Anyone know ?

Probably like most, I'm afraid to send it back again for fear it will come back with something else not working. Seems Sager has not so good service record and tends to break more things when sent back for repairs (IMO.)
Thanks!

Hello? Anyone?

how comes i have the feeling i saw that before? first of all, make sure you have all drivers installed properly and no probs there, next check in your sound settings and make sure the mic is not muted! seems like it is by default often enough.

as far as the soundchip goes, yes it runs through your soundcard, i would imagine it uses the same circuitry - would be kind of silly to have two diff circuits for int/ext mic on it (even if i could see some remote use options for it).

imo i cant imagine, they used refurb. mobo's - i would scream f*cking murder if , after paying a fortune on shipping (and maybe - after warranty) i would find a refurb mobo in my lappy. but i guess it would be best to ask sb like adam or luke about that. np here with mobo yet (or any of my sagers and their parts)- knock on wood.

Mobo replacement 9880 - 7-in-1 card reader questions

Many thanks! I removed the audio driver and reinstalled it and it's working again!

Do you have a 9880? If so, another question I have is regarding the 7in1 card reader. When it's enabled, I only see 4 drives listed in Windows Explorer (I don't recall how many I saw prior to mobo replacement.) I would think there should be 7??
Thanks again

yep only 4 physical drives, so you only see 4 - you still have 7 different media they can read.
