Im looking at two laptops, the HP nc6000 and nc8000. I'm trying to determince which one to get and It's driving me crazy !!! The nc8000 has every feature I want... but its a little too expensive and way too big for how much it weighs (6 lbs , but... 1.6 inches thick ?). The nc6000 is just about the right price and size, but its video card is only 64 mb and it has supposedly bad performance. I'm looking for the raw 3d mark 01 and 03 and the overclocked scores on the nc6000. Also, I'm looking for a more comprehensive review of the nc6000 with more info on build quality (is the case really made of magnesium?). Thanks, and sorry my post is so long.

Review of nc8000 with M10 64mb

3dMark03 M10 64mb

3dmark2001 M10 64mb

The nc8000 has a fixed and modular drive, possible consideration to why it's a bit thicker. With most lappy's at 1.5 inch, what is the big deal about an extra inch.]

I just bought this laptop, and yes it does not score extremely well. There is a solution though, the video card processor is downclocked by default. Returning the clock to a standard value makes the machine score quite well.

Anyone know how I can overclock an ATI radeon 9600, I want to get the nc6000 and boost its GPU clock speeds to 9600 pro versions defaults. Will this hurt my GPU?

The user comment on cnet is referring to the nc6000 with 32mb 9600. I've heard that the clock speed of 64mb version is higher... In fact I ordered my 64mb nc6000, and it will arrive in two weeks or so (delayed because of he sxga lcd), so if you can wait for a few weeks I'll post the clock rates and benchmark scores...
