Please help me with my partitioning decisions :)

Howdy all,

I have a few questions with regard to partitioning.
I took a screenshot of Partition Magic on the factory install of WinXP Home.

I am about to reformat and do a clean install.
Can someone please tell me what the following partition is for:

CP/M, Concurrent DOS, CTOS [occupying ~ 3 Gb of my 100 Gb HDD].

Is this the Dell MediaDirect [DMX] partition? -or- the restore partition?
Also, if it is the former then where is the restore partition ... if I cannot see it how can I nuke it? 7.8 Mb unallocated?! Not sure why?

I have decided I am only going to be running Windows on this machine and not dual boot with a Linux OS such as Ubuntu. That is because I am going to be using the I9400 primarily for my .NET + MSSQL development work for the time being.
Should I divide up the remaining 90Gb partition into two - 45 Gb each - one for windows & all my apps & games, and the other for work & downloads.

Also, would I lose the MediaDirect functionality by partitioning & reformatting?
Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

I'm 90% sure that the 3 gb is your restore partition. That was about the same size as mine. Yes, there's a little utility for putting back media direct (so that you can load up movies/music without booting up windows) after a reformat. It's found on the dell drivers site for the 9400 probably. Restoring media direct functionality is a little more complicated than just running an exe, but it's easy enough.
