the M460 is a pricey system and comparably i can only reccomend the T50 which has an astounding 7.5 hours battery life on normal use which also includes a professional version of the Radeon 9600 with nearly the same pricepoint as the VooDoo system.
Just curious if anyone has comments on the comparison between the IBM R50p and the Voodoo Envy m:460.

other than the fact that they are both expense kick a$$ systems =P...well as far as the availability of the m:460 expect like 45-50+ days to receive on order, that's according to some of the members of the voodoo forum www.voodoopc.com....which is a worse wait then the Area51M...but I'm sure both systems are nice, but some people prefer oranges, some apples...=P

Heh--I definitely agree with both the kick a$$ and, especially, the expensive, part.

As far as the wait goes, in fact, I just recently ordered an m:460 from Voodoo, and was told it would take roughly 30 days, modified to 40 days by the head honcho on the Voodoo boards. So the wait doesn't seem to be quite as bad as it was -- though I will believe it once I actually get the notebook.

There are any number of heavier gaming laptops, but I was looking for a thin-and-light one with decent battery life. This pretty much meant a 15" screen, pentium-M, ATI 9600, and ideally a 7200 rpm hard drive. Obviously, this means price isn't a limiting factor. The Alienwares never tempted me at all, especially since I think their design looks cheesy. I like Dells, but they have nothing that fits the bill (the 8600 is too heavy and too big for what I want). Leaving aside some other companies (ABS, ibuypower, cyberpower -- not to mention go-l ) which may or may not provide a good product for less, both the Voodoo and IBM looked tempting -- but the Voodoo is thinner and lighter and much more in tune with what I'm looking for. It's even cheaper than the IBM, which must be almost a first for a Voodoo.

well that's koo, I would like to have a m:460, but ordering out of the US gives me the willy's as far as customs, taxes, and any potential issues w/ the product <extended length of time and hassles w/ gettin repairs etc.> If I had 3+K to burn, I would get the m:460...light, battery life and best available vid card...btw what color did u get? and keep us posted when u finally get it w/ pictures and lengthy review =P...i'm still waiting on my 600M it's been a week, i dont see how anyone can take waiting over a month...then again I need mine for school etc. so yeah I got a "poor man's" m:460 lol...light, decent battery life, and decent card for half the cost =P

Yup, 3+K to burn is right -- it's definitely an extravagence (laguna seca blue, btw). Hopefully, I will post a review (in 6 months time, after the m460 arrives and is already obsolete ).

I like the Dell 600m as well btw; it's a nice powerful mobile centrino notebook (no doubt there are other choices too) -- it'll play dvds, though, but it won't play DX9 games very well.

lol yeah, oh well, student budget...but yeah by the time I get to have enough time to play DX 9 games/afford to <well have the necessary components to>, I'll probably be done w/ school and the 9700 ati's 256mb vid cards will be obsolete =P and the Dothan Chip would be something of the past too haha

What? You mean our machines won't be close to top of the line forever?!!?

It's a little disheartening to think about things like that but I've made a few rules for myself. 1) Be happy with the machine you've got. Got a great computer for a great price. Be content. 2) NEVER, EVER go back to Dell's website to see what you could get NOW for the same price. And remember #1.

Mine should be here today! I'll keep you all posted!

You will Definetly notice from 5-10 degrees of temperature difference. GBA ram (kingmax) have always been cooler but could never reach the speeds of TSOP (crucial, samsung, LG, infineon etc etc) performance will be equal since bga runs cooler and you can get it cheaper why not?

Hey anyone know how to keep your lappy from reducing power/lcd brightness in order to save battery life when u unplug the AC adapter?...so it will still run at max when it's running off the battery? thanks...I got the lappy today, will give a full review w/ pics
post #53 of 56
check the bios settings. There are two options in there.

You can manually set the brightness on max and the setting should be saved so that it uses max brightness next time. but for CPU power this has to be done in the bios or really fancy 3rd party software
post #55 of 56
3rd party software? suggestions? , btw thanks for all the help DM...great asset to the community
