I had the itch to upgrade... SO i dropped 1403 shipped for a 2.00 coreduo..

Stock except for WUXGA + 7800, 1gb ram..

Now the interesting part, i got my e1705 just abt three weeks ago (core solo). Im returning that.

i decided i wanted a real core duo for all my mulitasking needs...

hopefully this time the LCD will have less leakage.

how the heck are you people getting such great deals on those e1705s. i'm a college student also but I can't even configure one with a 1.83 core duo for under 1800

yes, please tell us what coupons you used in order to get the price you bought it for.

As for pricing, I just configured a 2.0Ghz Core Duo for about 1800 w/o using any coupons. Not sure what kind of specs you are wanting Dr. Juice.

I basicly got the same setup you did:

Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2500 (2GHz/667MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
FREE!1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 7800
100GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Network Card Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 6.0
FREE!8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)
No productivity suite- Corel WordPerfect word processor only
Anti-Virus/Security Suite (Pre-installed) No Security Subscription
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1Yr Ltd Warranty, 1Yr Mail-In Service, and 1Yr HW Warranty Support
Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center 2005 Edition backup CD

My total comes out to 1,419.31.. I picked up the Intel Wireless card so it can be centruino certified or something(??) i don't really know, but I might need to pick up A signals someday in the future. And I got the media center back up disc.. If you didn't get that, how would you reformat and do a clean install?

Also, will any regular operating system work with a labtop? I mean I've seen some, and they have power management and all this extra stuff desktops don't need?

^^ you need the 30% epp coupon that's floating around, can buy from ebay for 3 bux. Also, when you do the config, start with the most expensive one and substract from there.

Adobe Software Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 6.0
Combo/DVD+RW Drives FREE!8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Wireless Networking Cards Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g Mini Card (54Mbps)

for $2050

but I don't have 30% off coupon just the 20% and im guessing those dont stack. and I have 150 mail in rebate on it, and another 12% off. So what am i missing besides the 30% off because I don't think that would bring it down to 1400

1) Buy a 30%-off coupon from eBay for $3 or so.
2) Go to dell.com/epp
3) Choose Notebooks->E1705
4) If you want the 1 year warranty, choose "good". If you want the 3 year warranty, choose "better."
5) Then reduce the software and warranty to the lowest cost options within the configurer.

That config should be under $1500. The 3-year warranty is a pretty good deal. About $60 more for 2 more years and at-home service instead of mail-in.

Ok cool I got it down to 1600 without the 30% off. So it would be around there with the 30% coupon. Btw how long will the 30% off coupon last?

Expires on 2006-02-23 05:59:59 (or until Dell decides they've sold enough)
