CompuDirect shipped 9400 with wrong specs

Thread Starter
I ordered the Inspiron 9400 on 1-27-06 from CompuDirect.
I received it yesterday, 2-17-06.
After unpacking I booted up and started checking out the system.
Here is what I found thru the BIOS, Windows Device Manager and Dell System Information page at their website.
The specs DO NOT match what I ordered or what CompuDirect reflected on their website and the included invoice.
Here is what I ordered just as it shows on the CompuDirect website and my invoice.
Quote:
NEW! DELL INSPIRON 9400 LAPTOP

I ordered WUXGA 1920 x 1200 with TrueLife

3)Shipped with Dell Wireless 1390
I ordered IntelPRO/wireless 3945

4)Included Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth
I didnt order this as I was going to order for less from Dell parts after I received my laptop.

Everything else seems to have proper specs.

I have not been able to reach CompuDirect Or Dell as both say they are closed and to call back Monday.
At this point I want to find out who screwed up so I can get this resolved.
I dont know who botched it, but I would like to see the order slip from CompuDirect to Dell.
Either someone messed up or I got scammed!
Waited 3 weeks for a new laptop and now I dont know how much longer I will have to wait for this mess to be straightened out.
So much for reformatting this weekend!

Looks like I'm about to find out how good CompuDirect's customer service is.

Peace

hopefully you can get some free stuff out of it. or a fat discount. since its their fault, they should provided you with free overnight shipping to them and back. unfortunately they are most likely going to have to put the system together again which might take them a week. but im sure if you raise enough hell and talk to a manager, they can expidite that. try to get some free upgrades. like the higher processors, another free gig of memory or something. at least ask for a discount for your troubles

I will definately be angling for an upgrade or discount.
Looks like I will have to wait till Monday to speak with anyone though.
Thoroughly frustrated right now. I'm going to take my anger out on my guitar and piss off the neighbors.
I'm cranking both amps to 11.
Wife and kids are hiding in their rooms.

why dont you use the instant message type feature on the dell website? i talked to someone today in regards to my order. live!

I've never used that feature before.
When I tried to use Dell chat it told me it was only manned Mon-Fri.
I must have done something wrong or went to the wrong page.
I'll try again though since you were able to speak with someone.

Since the DELL warranty is normally tied to your service tag - if they simply swap the parts I wonder if you could have warranty issues down the road. I would double check on that.

Still no luck with chat.
When I go there it asks me to submit my info and then I receive 3 emails saying they have received my request. Will get back to me within 24 hours.
I dont even know at this point if its their problem.

I checked on the warranty before I ordered from CompuDirect and was told it was a DELL warranty and fully supported by them. I will check into warranty issues though. I'm also going to ask DELL if I can add CC.

Peace

Thanks for the link avarice786.
Well, I was able to connect this time but here is what I was told.

Based on the information you provided, our records show you are not a home or home office customer. If you purchased your system from another of Dell's business segment or one of Dell's Sales (partners, avenues, etc...) - please address your customer care questions to that business segment or that partner.

I was told that this was supposed to be DELL supported.
I didnt even get to the point of telling them what the problem was.
They just shut me out.
Looks like Monday will be a #$@!&*% Hostile day for me.

Peace

The other day I went to this restaurant and ordered a pizza. Guess what? Instead of mushrooms I ordered I got pepperoni. Not for a moment I felt a slightest urge to report this mistake to any forum anywhere. For a person seeking for information of Dell notebooks your experience with your order doesn't give any useful information at all.

Yeah I would have eaten the mushrooms. I like the taste and there is no PRICE difference. If I ordered the works I would have sent it back though.
For people looking to buy a laptop from another source this info could prove helpful if nothing other than a deterrent.
If this doesnt interest you dont read it. DOH!

jka, u gotta be kidding me, this forum consists of so much more than just people looking for information.

And Peter's experience with compudirect may infact prove helpful to anyone who may consider buying from compudirect.

btw, you might feel more of an urge to complain if the pizza cost you 2000 dollars. Just a thought....

So, did you get your order sorted out in the end, Peter?
Or, are you still taking out your anger on your guitar?
i dont think hes gonna be able to speak to anyone until monday morning
post #15 of 58
my order from compu direct will be delivered on Tuesday, I am curious to see what I will recieve now thanks for the heads up.

I have spoke to compudirect on the phone a few times about my order, everything has been pleasant so far, give them a call on there 1800 number. heres to hoping it was just a screw up, and not a scam of any kind.
This is at the bottom of the CompuDirect page when you order the dell system:

Dell and all of its products are trademarks of Dell Inc.
CompuDirect has no affiliation or partnership with Dell.

Does this mean they just order a system from Dell and then ship it to you after they get it? Or are they just placing the order with Dell and putting your address as the shipping address?

My guitar survived the thrashing and I had a chance to hash out a few new songs.

CompuDirect ships to the customer after they receive the system from Dell.
Mine was still in the Dell box with a CompuDirect shipping label attached to it.
The blue Dell shipping tape was cut and replaced with red and white CompuDirect shipping tape I believe. They probably open it up for inspection.
I dont think they booted it up to check system specs though. Probably just a physical inspection to make sure the merchandise is in the box.

Right now I'm waiting on a call back from CompuDirect. They are currently researching the issue. They said they're calling the warehouse.
Will let you know how things go.

Peace

They screwed up my order too!!!! I ordered on the 31st, and got it on the 16th. They sent me the xga instead of the uxga, and 2x512 533 instead of 2x512 667. They are complete A$$holes to deal with too. They guy I talked to argued with me, and told me he sent me the right thing.

To make a long story short. I called Dell, conference called compudirect, and eventually was given the option to return the notebook (and wait another 2 or 3 weeks ), or get a credit for the difference in screen price ($130 at the time). They said they couldn't do anything about the ram unless I wanted to return the notebook.

Basically, Dell can't do a damn thing. Once it's sold to a reseller, there are no returns or anything back to dell. Very strict rules from what the dell rep told me.

I needed this for my business, and had already sold my other computer, so I was kind of forced to take the credit. So far, I'm not minding the xga screen. The viewing angles kind of suck, but it's not too bad.

Here's a tip for you:
Call dell, and get a copy of the invoice emailed to Compudirect (talk to Alex @ compudirect (or andrew....can't remember), his extension is 711 )

Also, change the ownership with dell to your name (it's in compudirect's right now)

sarbz, Andrew is the same guy I am dealing with.
When you dial his extension, 711, the line sais it is Alex.?!
They're office hours show starting at 10:00am.
I called at 9:45am hoping to reach someone, I was able to reach Andrew.
He said he was researching it and would call me back.
11:58am still no response so I called him.
At first he didnt remember me?.!
Had to give him my order number. Then he sais he has begun researching it but Dell isnt open yet.
.
SIDENOTE: Dell reps I have personally spoken with are in Austin. I recently ordered an Axim x51v from them direct. Great buying experience by the way.

I was told that the DELL rep he needed to speak with is in California on west coast time so he would have to get back to me as it was just now 9:00 on the west coast.
Here it is 1:53pm my time (central) and still no word back.

I too need this for business, cant really afford down time.
I also was planning on taking this lappy to Europe for sixteen days March 1.
Would be using it for downloading massive amounts of pics, staying in touch with the kids while I'm gone, and keeping myself entertained on the plane and the Eurail.

I have already changed the ownership to my name I think.
Service tag number is associated with my Dell profile anyway.

Peace

Peter
