9400 Screen question.

Ok this is my first post.
Obviously you're all honored and awed by my presence here but...dont be intimidated and feel free to reply to this post!.

I'm about to get a new laptop(well...my job is going to change my previous one) anyway..I've been reading alot of good thing about the 9400 and got the guy at work to get a price for one with a wuxga. I'm really 99% convinced this is the laptop I want but...

I've read some ppl complaining about the screen. Today I went to the mall and saw a 9300 with a wuxga screen(the video card was a radeon). At first glance I thought it look really good. The text looked sharp and really nice to read. But then I noticed that some images and graphical fonts were kind of fuzzy and the edge was bleeding. Is this caused by the video card or the screen?? Is this one of the thigns people complain about?

For those who have a 9400 if possible I'd like to know the following things.
A-What screen brand do you have and what card you have.
B-Have you noticed the images with bleeding edges?
C-Everything you like about the display
D-Everything you hate about the display.

Thx!

Dell uses multiple LCD vendors, and there's variability even for a given vendor. Some have light leakage, some don't.

If you saw fuzzy fonts or images, that was just a software issue. The WUXGA resolution will render the best looking images and fonts you can get when correctly configured.

before demanding an answer, start searching this forum. There are a lot of threads that handle this.

I did I just spent the last 4 days reading this forum(verry good by the way). But I didnt find what I was looking for.
Yes I saw ppl complaining about light leakage and abou the screen etc.. but verry rarely do I see the make of the screen, the video card used and the screen type. I'm trying to figure out if most ppl complaining have a specific combination that is more prone to display issues.
And also I didnt really find any mention of bleeding images....like I saw yesterday. IE was open on Dell's web page and the tilted "E" in the Dell logo was really ugly like when you get water on text writen in ink on paper.

we have to order the laptops early this week. That's why I decided to ask while I was still searching the web for more info.

All 9400 and E1705 have lightleakage with the new samsun screen it looks
like, it looks great in windows, only when you are watchin DVD and the background is black or if your background is all black you see the light leakage
the video card does not have anything to do with lightleakage or sparkel effect.
i dont see sparkel effect anymore on the E1705, but my old 9300 had it.
and for the pictures looking fuzzy, if you change your DPI to 96 everything looks ok.
120 DPI will strech the JPG picture and make then look fuzzy
if you have any other quastion let me know.

yup, fuzzy fonts etc, is due to software not the screen. the scren produces the sharpest images u ever saw.

9300 had sparklies on the LG (no more on the 9400)
But 9400 has more light leakage.

Ok thx, thats reasuring.
Did you guys keep the 120 dpi? or switched to the 90?
Lets say I'm programming on this stuff will the 90 dpi be too small?

Keeping my fingers crossed, hoping we can indeed get that laptop. And also get a screen with minimal leakage.

I read somewhere that the leakage seems to diminish over time. I also read some guy saying he had dell send a guy to replace his screen and it was alot better afterwards. I hope both are true.

Occasioanlly when browsing web, it gets small. but u can easily incrase the font size via CTRL+Mouse scroller.

But for other apps, never ever too small..

U'll be thankful when u play CIV4/AOE3 at 1920x1200.. its BRILLIANT!

I was thinking along the same lines at the time of purchase! The answer I got was it was up to the production team - not sales.
Anyway, just ask and see what they can do for you.

Ok, I just learned something that might suck.. This UXGA screen, people say it's like a miror??

Does this mean I can't use it outdoors or in bright lighting?

It's kinda like a CRT screen. I dont have one ...but I saw some at the mall....It look so damn nice. But I see where it might reflect light more then a matt LCD. But noooooo way I'm going to that matt on my next lap top. Unless I have a really good reason...it looks so boring and colors arent as good.
