cool pad for 7405gx

anyone have a cool pad they like for our 17" gateway laptops? i currently have the targus coolpad and it doesn't quite fit. it does barely, with the shoes hanging on each side. but it was dropped the other day and now the power cord is lose, and it doesn't work all the time.

i see the lapcool4 seems to be recommended, but i wasn't sure if it works with these 17" screens. any suggestions???

also, i don't really need a "hub". i'd rather pay less for just a cooler, but whatever works.........

are you talking about your 7405gx? we have 15.4" screens. I use a bytecc cooler and the feet hang out, but the cooler itself has little posts to hold it in place. I personally haven't seen anything bigger that mine or the targus ones, but i'm sure they're out there.

oh jeeze. have i been mistaken this whole time? i just bought a bag thinking i needed a 17inch bag. i thought our widescreen made it bigger. lol--oh well.

either way, this lappy is bigger than the targus coolpad.

What the Heck are you all talking about? I have a 7405gx and I have NEVER needed a cooler pad, my lappy never gets HOT, the fan comes on intermitently but not very offten, I have left my lappy on all day most of the time, and still after 12 to 24 hrs, it's not even hot-to-the touch, I always have it plug-in with the power cord, I almost never use the battery, I use this lappy like a desktop, I Swear.........it Always NEVER gets HOT, cuz I always check, even on the botom of the case, is always cool

You're lucky. I just put a thermometer on the bottom of my 7405GX and it was 133 degrees on the *outside* of the case, with a digital oven thermometer - so probably actually even hotter if I had a proper thermometer to measure it with. God only knows what the temperature is inside!

Once the memory bank felt super hot from the outside maybe 2 days after i put a gig in it, but i have not noticed the hot spot since. I remeber when i noticed it i thought am i gonna crash? But nothing happened.

Here's a rule-of-thumb, I DON'T run my Gateway GX7405 outta-specs, meaning
I only Have I Gig of PC 2700 MHZ 333 Memory in slot # 1 and in Slot # 2 I have 256Mhz PC2700 Mhz 333 Memory, That Right, I using STOCK MEMORY, so, That could explain why I DON'T run very Hot, and don't need cooling! Running Higher Speed Memory (like PC3200 or PC4000) and up to 2 Gigs will work, but, It's NOT RECOMMENDED by Gateway, so, doing this will Always make things HOTTER!

You have a good point. The gig sticks get pretty toasty. I know mine does! My 7200rpm 100gb hard drive gets even hotter though. I'm sooo glad I have an iCurve stand

Your laptop should never get 133 F on the outside unless your room temp is like 90 F, or if your fans are not working.

hi thrill,

i have the lapcool2 with the 4 port hub for my m675. yes, the laptop hangs over the sides of the fan, but the laptop doesn't move.

the company does make some without hubs. i needed the hub because i have 4 external drives that i use from time to time and this way i can have all of them plugged in and just turn on whichever one i need at the time.

i've seen other brands in the store and them seemed flimsy.
i hope this helps.

These laptops will run plenty hot stock. My temperature quoted above was on a completely stock laptop (original memory, hard drive, no changes made whatsoever).

Room temp is around 70-75 max. Fans are working (audibly and you can easily feel the jet of hot air out of them). The laptop is also clear of any visible dust.

The only possible cause is that all four rubber feet came off in a matter of a few weeks, but regardless when sitting on a flat surface (desk, whatever) it gets very hot.
