Listen to how i hooked laptop to stereo

Thread Starter
Well what i did was i took a regular laptop green audio cable. I then got a regular stereo red and white cable and spliced it to the green laptop cable by cutting them both in half and connecting the red and white cables to the red and white cables and making one cable. I hooked up the red and white side to my stereo and the green side to my laptop.

IT SSOUNDS GREAATT!!!

my only question is is this safe for my dell 9300??? having it rigged like this to a 5.1 sound system?

If you know what your doing, and have the extra parts lying around. Why not do it yourself and save some cash? I make many cables and have no problems with them. As long as you did it right it will work great.

i did that too for my desktop. i have my old akai stereo (has a cd input on the back, but no cdplayer itself) hooked up in roughly the same manner. got a splitter too and im using my bass amp to help in the deep volumes (its cheep, old, and sturdy). sounds just as good as all the 5.1s out there, and surely louder. only sad part is what the 5.1s have, 5 different audio sources. if only i could make my own 5.1 sound system......

Hmm Zaphod... you obviously havent heard many good 5.1 systems

Not knocking what you do, for the budget it can be great(Word of warning I will post up in a moment) but a good well set up system will sound better(And probably cost a bit more

My word of warning in doing this... Hi-Fi Speakers(And especially Bass Amps) are NOT shielded, meaning if you have a CRT make sure you keep those speakers AWAY from the CRT unless you like purty colors on your screen all the time.

Yes, make sure to keep all of that away from any CRT screens you have. But if you have have a degauss option on the monitor it should fix those colors. If not just grab a magnet and slowly work the colors out.
