I was going to go with DUO..but rather save the bucks..for games didnt think the duo would make huge difference...though i am not sure

Think I did ok?
Personally, I think the upgrade to duo is worth it because it really isn't all that much. I would have switched out that 7200 rpm HD for 5400 rpm, since it'll just make the notebook that much hotter and 5400 works just fine with games.

Still a nice notebook though, congrats. Btw, out of curiousity, why did you buy such a big warranty
post #3 of 28
did you use any coupons? I think you could have done better. They are currently giving away some free upgrades, such as memory and dvd burner.
I think I'd take the Duo Core over the 7200 HD

oh i did it through my EPP, and got 20% off and think it was free memory or something and why i got 4 year warranty

reason i went with 7200, is my last laptop had 5400 600m and was sstill too slow for me..

i thought about duo core but by going single wont that also save battery?

in terms of performance how mcuh difference Duo make for games?

I'm not sure about battery life. But you keep mentioning games from what I understand a 7200 hd will give lower load times but gameplay isnt about load times. I also think a core duo will most likely send background tasks and processes to one core while the game is handled by the other core. So there might be a performance gain. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Personally, I'd cancel the order and go get a 30% off coupon through ebay for use with EPP. It'll cost ya like $3; but it'll save you anost $200-$300 at least. I'd also go with the Core Duo, and I'd say a three year warranty is about as high as you need to go. A 7200 RPM drive will definitely be faster, and won't change the temps or batter life much at all. Some people debate whether it is worth the price difference, but if you want faster loard times; and have the cash, I'd do it. I'd have to agree that Core Duo would be more important though.

I'd say the Core Duo and DVD burner s well worth it. Much better IMO.
That looks much better...and for almost the same price.
and now you got Core Duo, t2400, still have the 7200, and you got a DVD burner.
Oh and if you are concerned about battery life. You should get a 9 cell battery..not a 6 cell.

It means $1591 -$150; but you have to prove you're an EPP member to get it.

I would drop the 4 year down to 3 year, get rid of the symantec bloatware, get the WUXGA instead of the WXGA+, and buy a second AC adapter and backpack (they come out to about $20 each after coupon).

I would like to get the same set up you did for that price. Can you tell me how you did it? The lowest I can get it is $1,800. How did you get the 30% and 12% off? Thanks

reason i went with WXGA i want lower native resolution especially to be able to play games...I am going to be using this to play EQ2 as my secondary machine...and I doubt I be able to get EQ2 to run at its native resolution of the UXGA with decent performance...

with my current 600m i have the XGA and I think the LCD looks great and was perfect in terms of resolution and readability for my eyes

i probably should have got the higher ac adapter...but oh well not sure if want to go through customer service and making all changes they tend to mess things up in past when i did that LOL

truth is more i thought about it wont be using on battery much anyway

Easiest is probably to buy one off of ebay for $3. Go with a powerseller though that has numerous of them for sale though, even if it's $1 more.

The 7800 will have no problem running most games at native WUXGA rez, but if you have poor eyesight, then the WXGA+ makes a lot of sense for you. Keep in mind, though, that you'll be using a 17-inch display vs the 14-incher on your 600m. You can fit a lot more pixels on that big display. WUXGA on a 17-inch has the same pixel-pitch as WSXGA+ on a 15.4-inch, for example.
