I keep reading the posts in this forum and am still slightly confused about all the different discount options. Any feedback regarding the deal I got and options for improving it would be appreciated. Some of the things you may need to know in order to help are as follows:
1. I’m not a gamer or video editor.
2. I was looking to spend up to $2,000 in an effort to take care of current computer needs (which include voice recognition software, watching tv via Slingbox while working in applications, general preference that things just work faster/better, etc.) as well as having some ability to handle future needs (?).
3. Definitely wanted the biggest and “best” screen.
4. I know I could buy the slower memory for less (i.e., 533MHz) and upgrade (i.e., 667MHz), but I would just prefer it come from Dell already installed the way I want it.
5. I wanted a DVI out so, as I understand it, the 7800 was my only option (i.e., as opposed to the integrated graphics card which I did not want).
6. I opted for the faster RPM hard drive based on my research with the understanding that there are differences of opinion on the value of it.
7. I assume the “English without Media” language next to the MCE notation means I won’t get the actual disk which I want in order to reformat the hard drive and get rid of some of the bundled software.
8. I definitely would like the laptop now barring some very compelling reason to wait. That is, and I don't mean this rudely, but saving $100 is not that big a deal to me. However, it seems some people are spending $1,400-$1,500 which would be nice if I could figure out how to do that.
Thanks.
