Dead battery!!!

I had my 9300 since august '05 it's 6 cell battery is on it's last leg, i remember when i could pull 2-2 1/2 hours out of it. I had ran it down the first time as some say, and most of the time i run it all the way down and charge it back up. My 9300 is used as a desktop replacement most of the time, so it is plugged in a lot. sometimes in January i had installed 7800gtx, and just have started noticing battery life sucks, all I can get out of it is 45-50 minutes on all the lowest power settings. Even after installing the 7800 i could pull more than 1 1/2 hours out of it at medium brightness. All I had on this thing was 90 day warranty, so I'm out of luck i think. can anyone suggest anything, i know that i will be picking up a 9 cell off ebay.

maybe... and a big maybe (dont know how the serial numbers work..) buy a new one from dell.. once you get it, tell them it doesn't work and send your old battery back and get them to send a new one.. then you'll have two new batteries.. one with which to use, the other to use (or to sell at your whim).. Even if it worked, I dont think I could do it.. I'd feel bad for exploiting them (even if they are a multibillion dollar corporation).. but hey, if you arn't morally opposed to stealing, you could give it a shot..

I'm sure they don't care about my battery, and that it is dead, only after six months.

They will most likely send me something without me knowing like they did twice, and charge me on my dpa, after only asking about it.

9 cell batteries on ebay are only like $60

You have the 7800GTX and run it with the six cell? That seems like a waste.
Also I'm not sure who told you to run the battery down before charging but they gave you the wrong information, That used to be true with Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) or Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH). If you didn't fully discharge the battery then fully recharge it,You would end up with a battery that wouldn't fully charge and would store less energy.
The battery in your laptop is a Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) It doesn't suffer from the same memory problem.
It can be charged more often and without discharging before recharging will no ill effects.

I know it's a waste, running the 7800 on 6 cell and 90 watt, but i had higher priorities than 7800gtx running at full steam, i have to say it still kicks ass running only half power! Books and other things for school are killer on the wallet! Thanks for the info on batteries. Any other suggestions are welcome!
