New Ram not letting me play games ddr 667

Hey everyone just wanted to let yall know that this new Ram I got Corsair DDR 667 1gb x2 is not letting me play my games (it freezes) and 3dmark (reboots) I think because the system is getting too hot, it works fine when I take 1 module out, but if there both in the laptop it won't work (everything else works, except games) Maybe I need to wait for a bios update or something? For now, I am just keeping 1gb installed. So FYI don't get 667 ram until acer releases a new bios update or something...

Hrrmm that's strange. You say it works with only one stick installed - have you tried using both sticks on their own? All I'm thinking is that one of the sticks might be bad..

Funny thing, I tried both, one at a time, they both work by themselves but when they are together they freeze up my system using any 3d application.

Did you try testing both modules independently with a tool like memtest86?

is it possible to use both 533 and 667 ram simultaneously?

Yes, but it's pointless since the system will slow the faster RAM down to the speed of the lower RAM.

Yes I tried memtest 86+ but it never seemed to finish, it would eventually freeze with both modules were installed and also freeze when I tried them one at a time, maybe a problem with duo core?

Did occur to me when I read it. Now I wonder what will happen with the MacBooks that also claim 667Mhz memory.

However, the Acer uk site lists the memory specs as 533/667 mhz, that means you might get either of them in your shipped hardware.

Hi,

those are problems of bios (in most cases) and not the processor as someone already said. Did you try to upgrade to the new version?
hmm. I have two 1 gig sticks of 667 ramjet ram. I will try them out.

667 ram resulted in a bump in 3d mark 05. It ran fine.

After loading new bios I got 4506..nice for stock settings.

Then, the 667mhz works fine. What readings did you get from 3dmark05 with the 533mhz which came with your laptop?

I never got to run 3dmark05 olr 3dmark06 it always froze my computer, even when I would start up a game I would play for about 3 mins then it would freeze, I sent the ram back so I hope it was just the ram. By the way the type of ram I bought was:
Corsair Value Select DDR 667 Sku:VS1GSDS667D2
What type of ram and where did you get it?
thanks

That's some great increase in 3dMark05 scores. Makes me want the 667MHz more!

My original score was 4161 with stock drivers and 533 ram.
I am currently running the new omega drivers wth the 667 ram.
I bought my ram from ramjet.

cdd, are you saying that the scores of app. 4500 were with the 667MHz RAM and stock drivers, or with the 667MHz RAM and Omega drivers? I ask, because the Omega drivers with 533MHz RAM give a boost to about 4500...

Please let us know. If the scores were with stock drivers, please post the scores with the Omega drivers and 667MHz RAM. Thanks!

I don't understand why mine didn't work, I guess I'll try again when I get the replacement ram from corsair, It says CAS Latency 5, does that mean anything?

I sounds like you have a bad stick. Specs of my ram.
PC2-5300, DDR2-667, 667Mhz, Latency 4-4-4-12 , Non-ECC, Unbuffered, 1.8V, 200pin SO-DIMM

4500 was with the omega drivers.

Alrighty, then it would appear that the 667MHz RAM didn't make a meaningful difference in performance. 4500 was also achieved by someone else (can't remember who, but it's in the forum) by using 533MHz RAM and the Omega drivers.

I'm guessing (really guessing) that Acer tested the systems with 533MHz RAM and 667MHz RAM, didn't notice a major difference, and decided to ship with 533MHz to either forestall any delays in procuring the faster RAM or to avoid reliability issues they'd noted with it.
