HP ZV5000 will not boot

Thread Starter
I have a pavilion zv5434rs which died 4 days outside warranty and HP refuses to offer any grace period. The issue I keep seeing is that when I push the power button, the power indicator on the front will light up for about ten seconds then it goes out. It does this with or without the battery inserted. The same if I try to run off battery. The HD doesn't spin up even the fan does not turn. Any ideas?

Sounds like the AC adapter.

Try replacing that.

Sounds like the DC jack problem here.. (Probably not the adapter). These are well known for jack and supply line issues and bad solder joints. Weve repaired a ton over the last year and they are plagued with other problems as well especially if it has the Athlon or Athlon 64 CPU. Look in howtofixcomputers.com in the HP section under "HP owners with bad power jacks".. You'll see youre not alone.

Call again and ask for a supervisor, explained everything and tell him that you feel like you deserve help because is not fair that the NB is crapping out about 1 year after you bought it.

If you get a nice sup then you will get your call routed to the corporate quality department and probably they will help you.

This kind of worries me. I have a 18 month old zv5000 with no problems yet. After reading this, im gonna be extra easy on her. haha

Would be a good Idea.. Were getting a ton of these in and the jack issue will surface sooner or later.. Trust me.

This also can be the LCD cable, and even the CPU. In the series I work on, it's also the trackpoint cable shorting out the system, but that's the series I work on. Beyond that, it could be the system board, and possible the issue the others raised. Don't normally troubleshoot passed the system board, just replace it and continue...

My challenge is almost the same, Power indicator comes on for eactly 2 seconds then goes off.  The jack however doesn't appear to be loose. Holding it in or gently moving it does not make the indicator liight come back on again. Only completely unplugging it and plugging it back in again make it light again for the same 2 seconds. Power cord appears OK.  Could this be something other than the jack?

Thanks
