best bang for buck: 15.4 with X1600

I've been impatiently waiting for a dual core 15.4'' notebook with x1600 that falls within my price range. I plan to buy within the next month or so. Acer, Asus, and Dell each have a very soon-to-be-released notebook. There are probably a few others as well. What company typically provides the best price structure? I'm hoping to find a dual core 1.6ghz, 15.4'' notebook with X1600 at around 6.5lbs for around $1700. Am I asking too much for my budget?

Thanks,
Brian

ASUS Z92 barebone, released sometime in march...
If the barebone is 1000$
1.6hz yonah is roughly 270$
1gb ram 667mhz 150$
roughly 150$ for a Hard Drive

Plus tax... yah maybe around 1700$

Thanks,

At today's rate, that's 1,656 USD. Perfect for me. However, I have no idea when it will actually be available in the US. Also, notebooks do not seem to be priced equally around the world. The notebook wouldn't necessarily cost $1,656 in the US. Does anyone know what the A6Ja will cost when it is finally released in the US?

What is the lcd resolution on the A6Ja?

Thanks,
Brian

Usually things are a tad cheaper in US than here in Europe...

Wxga means 1280 x 800 or whatever the laptop equivalent is.

Are you happy with your A6Ja? If it becomes available in the US in the next few weeks (supposedly this week..end of February), I'm going to get it.

I am very happy with it, I must say. Thus far, I've found nothing to complain about - it's solid, fast and has everything I need (and a bit more).

It does seem like a great machine. Do you find it bulky/heavy? I would be carrying it everyday. A 14'' machine would probably be better for portability, but I want the X1600 and a larger keyboard.

Now if it will only be released in the US....

I also have one of those, and im very happy with it except for the color banding problem (any other A6Ja user who can tell me if it's just my computer having this wierd problem?) search the forum for A6Ja and you will find it.

Otherwise, its better looking than on all pictures, the processor and memory is quite fast (i've upgraded the memory so that i have 2x512, running in dual channel mode) However, the harddrive is painfully slow, only 4200rpm. I will exchange mine as soon as i've solved the banding problem, before i've done that, im not 100% this computer is a keeper.

Also, the computer is quite bulky, around 4cm at it's thickest point, but not too heavy since it's made of plastic. There are definitly smaller and slimmer 15-inchers, but far more expensive ones, or with crappy graphics, i'm very happy with performance of the 256mb X1600.
