Main windows volume control doesn't affect headphone volume

FIXED IT,
Installed the newest Sigmatel drivers and voila, headphone slider gone, volume control works on line-out!

If I remember correctly, mine does. I can use the buttons on the front of the laptop, or the fn+pageup/pagedown and it changes the volume. I would test, but I broke my headphones.

The Fn+page keys also move the main volume slider, but it still has no effect on the headphone lineout volume

If I could find a way to bind the volume buttons as a global hotkey to headphone volume it'd be great!

How do you adjust it manually? Using the windows volume control?

Jep! Very quirky

When you open the volume control, how many options do you see?

6

I only have 4.

Volume Control | Wave | SW Synth | CD Player

What version of Windows do you have?

XP SP2, without any of the Dell software
the number of options doesn't have anything to do with it.

I have Windows XP MCE w/ SP2 and all the Dell Software still installed.

Well, that surely could make a difference, but I'd preffer not installing any of it
post #12 of 24
I'm not sure which one that would be, other than if you have the Home Edition of Windows XP, that could be the biggest difference; so I am not too sure, maybe someone else with more knowledge on the matter will chime in and help you.

Windows (dell buttons) volume adjust works fine for me with the lappy default connection as well as my Audigy 2zs.

So the headphone slider moves? Or does the volume control slider move and then headphone volume is affected?

btw, how did you install the widcomm stack?

Open: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/Class/{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0005/Settings

Here you can enable advanced volume settings & controls, including mic and auxilary line-ins, etc. If you screw up the settings
(in this file) simply uninstall & reinstall the soundcard and the reg settings will go back to their default.

What if you also use s-video out? does the "volume control" slider move, or does the headphone slider move?

My volume controls don't have "headphones" mentioned anywhere as a seperate entity from main volume control...

I think this is the source of the problem.

What sound card drivers do you have installed?
