Upgradabilty of I8600

I am up to by the I8600. But I have some questions

1. If I buy this notebook now with a 1,4 gig processor, will it be possible to upgrade the processor later with the new version of the banias (cant remember its name) with 2 mb cache, or doies the new version require a completely new motherboard chipset?

2. Which Ram should I buy for my Notebook? Which brand I mean. Are there rams out there with CL2 for laptops? I would buy kingston 2x512 for 300 dollars in total. WHat do u think?

Thats it sofar thnx.

1. There is no Centrino system that officially supports Dothans (the name your looking for) so to say the least you can upgrade up until 1.7ghz Banias CPU but for beyond thats its what ever the company says. It will most likely will not be supported and used in the next generation of Inspirons.

2.Kingmax is very inexpensive and will keep your DIMM temperatures avg or below 70c oh heavy use assuming winter weather conditions and 80c in summer. Samsung is generally best money can buy but you will pay nearly 30% more expect 10% performance difference.

I ordered right now the i8600 with 1.4 gig.

Will there be any further versions of the banias that have more than 1.7 gig?

I am asking becuase I want to upgrade the cpu sooner or later to at least 1.7 or even higher if produced.

When do u think the 1.7 gig processor will be around 250 Dollars?

Where can I get it then?

Thnx

u can change out the processor in these laptops? / upgrade them from 1.4 and up? i wasn't aware of this...DM this isn't possible w/ my 600M is it? also can u give me the info as far as which kingmax ram to get from newegg?
You can change the cpu in any Dell Notebook including the 600m. Go with 512MB of 333Mhz SODIMM ram from Kingmax. Your lap will thank you for not burning them
