Alright, well I've built a list of the Options (with upgrade prices) for the upcoming I6400/E1505. I did this because I am looking to replace my 15.4" work laptop very soon and with the introduction of the I6400/E1505 coming within the next month (reportedly) I decided to get a head start on configuring exactly what I'm going to want.

Turns out there will very good options for the I6400 as you'll see when you read on.

I'll break this list down similar to the way you would build a system on dell.com

So there you have it. Everything you need to configure an I6400/E1505. Remember the prices are before discounts and are the actual retail prices. So if another 30-40% off deal comes out around the time of introduction, you'll already know what you want and be good to go. You can also use this to compare configuration prices to current I6000 systems.

Some things to note:
*Soundblaster Audigy default on-board sound - kind of a nice touch.
*3 Screens available - Nice to have a low-res truelife option (unlike the 9300/9400)
*Video is about the same performance tier as the I6000 was, but no pesky HyperMemory would be something good.
*Memory options including 533mhz and 667mhz up to 2gig.
*Hard drive options including 5400rpm and 7200rpm is good to see.
*Quicksnap options remain the same.
*Base Chassis prices are currently about 80$ higher per model over the I6000.

Hope Everyone Enjoys.

What other graphics card does the X1400 compare with in terms of gaming power?

The ATI x1400 is similar in performance to the GeForce Go7300/7400 series. Not quite as "powerful" in gaming as a 6600, but since it is equivilent to a GeForce7 series card that means it has Shader 3.0 and is better at multimedia than a Go 6600.

Thanks for all specs!

FWIW: According to the I6400 owner's manual the on-board soundchip is a Sigmatel STAC9200 not Audigy.

they arent going to build an audigy SC into the 6400 stock.

thatll be an upgrade. remember this isnt an xps.
x1400 im most interested with....compared to a 6600 in a desky/ or laptop?

It's compared to a Go 6600 (laptop - aka Base Model, not a GT). And ATI is supposed to have something similar to Nvidia's PureVideo available for better codec playback of video's and DVD's.

And as for the Sound, I find it odd that there is an SKU for it - with a price of $0.00 even - but yet sound is on-board and can't be simply replaced. So maybe the Sound option for the Audigy isn't the HD Advanced chip used on the Dimensions and is instead a poorly labelled SKU for the Audigy PCMCIA Card (but without a price?).

I wouldn't be surprised if after these latest coupons expire they come out with the I6400 and starve us of coupons for a couple weeks like they did with the I9400.

FWIW: The I6000 w/X300 on the left and then the new I6400 w/X1300 or X1400 on the right. Notice any diff? Can you say possible upgrade path for I6000 owners!?

Looking more at the actual specs, I'm saddened by the ExpressCard slot. I know it's the next technology step for the slot, but it's the one thing that should've been made legacy because of the expense in acquiring newer cards and the long delays before items will be ready.

So now I can't buy one until one of two things happen...

1) Sprint and Verizon release ExpressCard models of the PCMCIA cards they JUST released last year.

-or-

2) I have to go spend $200 on an Elan U132 that won't be available until beginning of the summer.

That sucks!!! So many "new standards" are making gaps in creating solutions portable to the newer platforms. =(

That would be awesome

Really wish it had a non-True Life high-res screen option... guess I'm gonna have to get used to the glare. Really didn't like it on the M140 I just sent back though... X1400 will be great though, wish it was an X1600...

Unfortunately Dell doesn't have an x1600 listed on the SKU sheets I have from their FTP. So no chance of that happening via any Spare Parts options either.

Going from a 2.8ghz P4 w/HT and 64meg 9700 Pro video to 1.66ghz Dual Core and 128meg x1300 Video will be about the same system but better at multitasking... which is what I need for work. But that won't happen now until an ExpressCard comes out from Sprint and Verizon. =(

... or someone grabs the gap in the market and builds a ExpressCard "PCMCIA" convertors - i.e. an expressCard that allows you to plug your PCMICA card into it. YEah, it would be big and clunky - but I reckon a LOT of Audigy ZS 2 owners would buy it...

Nice that dell lengthened the heatpipe so the northbridge is also covered now. Intel GMA integrated graphics users will appriciate this I think.

I am looking very much forward to this laptop. I'll sell my current I6000D for this one. I've been looking at other brands as Asus, but those notebooks are more expensive. Same price difference as when I bought the I6000D.

Does anyone know what Dell's normal behavior is when releasing a new laptop? Will it be overpriced or will they be trying to promote it with sales promos etc? I was gonna buy the e1705 but since seeing the e1505 specs I'm leaning more towards waiting a month and buying that one. At the same time I don't wanna overpay.

Thanks

Looks like VGA only...

FWIW: Looks like Dell has removed the Owner's Manual .pdf file from it's server...hmmmm

Since the ExpressCard slot is flatter than a PCMCIA card, that would mean that none of the PCMCIA card would slide into the laptop with an inline adapter. Do you really want something sticking 6-8 inches out of the side of your laptop? I don't think so. =(

Somms... much of the I6400 owner manual I looked at was incorrect compared to the spec's listed in their SKU sheet. Dell doesn't even have an x1300 64meg card in their inventory, but the I6400 Manual made a brief mention of it somewhere. They may be redoing the manual to reflect final specs and options.

And the I6400 will have the same rear connectors as the I6000D if memory serves me from the pictures I saw. The 2 systems are almost identical (just like the I9300 and I9400).

If they put an ATI X1400 card in it it may come with hypermemory where half the stated memory is on the card and the other half is system memory. The Fujitsu N3530 is like that.
