I'm probablly smoking crack but as far as i know thats normal around here.

ok here is the idea tell me if im crazy..
I have a 4760 and as far as i can tell this screen in here is the one listed below.

with that being said the new screen that phillips currently makes is the one below.

as you can see these screens are the same size and Im wondering if I somehow manage to get my hands on the 2nd screen if i could do a screen swap and it would work.

My theory right now is it is possible and Im going to have to get a more detailed spec on the 2nd screen to be sure. But id sure like to have that rez...

The thickness on the two models is different. That may be a problem.

Well after taking the case apart i think that it will fit there is easily another milimeter (spelling) in there. the only real question i have now is where to get one to se if it works.

almost anything can be made to work, the real question is if it should be made to work or if its worth it.

But its a good idea, I guess your machine is no longer on warranty so you are free to mod at will. I wish a lot more people would take the initiative with laptop modding.

Whatever, keep us posted on this.

Here's my experience in laptop LCDs:

I have a Panasonic Toughbook and a Digital Hinote VP laptop
both have 12.1in screens.
The Panasonic's screen was bad so I got to thinking about the Digital I wondered if it would work. I pulled both units apart and to my surprise the LCD were very similar they even had the same type of connector! So I hooked it up and booted and got an image actually I got two images one good and one ghost so even though they were very similar (same manufacturer different model number) they weren't compatible.

So, the things your going to need to check.
Is the power inverter connector the same (for the backlight)
Is the data cable the same (these can very from model to model)
Are the signals all the same data, sync etc?

You've got a 50% of it working. There's also a chance you could damage the drive circuitry.

If anyone out there has more detailed specs on either of these screens please help a brother out and send em my way. I e-mailed phillips and hopefully they can be of some help.

Since LCDs are supposed to be interchangable parts, does that mean that a notebook can use any same-generation same-sized LCD? I know that the data port is generally the same for any recent LCD (LVDS 2). Most likely the power connector will be the same as well. By sync ratio do you mean refreshment rate? I think that's a consistant 60Hz for all LCDs. LCDs don't have a scan rate like CRTs except for the refreshment rate.

A little over half way down they have the screen for the 4760.

Heres something else kind of interesting.
