network stalled

I'm not sure if this an issue with my 888 or XP, but I'm leaning towards XP. I've found that when downloading files, my downloads will stall and crap out. All network traffic will stop for no reason. Like right now I'm in the middle of downloading Nero Burning ROM and a Gentoo ISO and it just stopped. Any ideas?

Firewall or Anti-Virus problem. But I would not disable them. Just turn the settings down test it.

I've had that prob. Turned out to be ZoneAlarm getting paranoid. Which firewall you using?

No antivirus installed - use trendmicro once a month to check for virii, never had one never will.

Using Sygate Personal firewall - It's configured to allow Opera inbound/outbound.

Here's the part that makes me think it's not the firewall. Traffic just stops.
No blinky lights on the Windows computer icon
No blinky lights on sygate inbound or outbound (BTW it would show red if it's blocking traffic)
No blinky lights on my Wireless Enet card. I've always got full signal.

Sybot Search&Destroy an Adaware both come back 100% clean with today definition files.

It's a relatively fresh install of XP up-to-date
Drivers are latest version for NIC.

I'm out of ideas.

You realise you jinxed my machine after you posted this .
I was surfing the forum and wham! my network dies. Rebooted and all came back. I wonder if the new Realtek drivers are giving it headaches.

Which version of the drivers are you using? I just stuck 6.11 in. Might have to roll back if this gets any worse.

What are you using to connect to the internet? Are you on a wireless LAN? Is it NetGear?
Dlink gear actually Marquis - copper all the way to the cable outlet plate on the wall.
No am not sure about these 6.11 drivers.
Mind you I have been playing around with various settings and think part of the problem is human stupidity .
Still the drivers are on trial right now...

Actually, I meant that for Beakmyn, but I guess it applies to you as well. As you know, I've had problems with my Netgear equipment. The symptoms sound identical, the net just goes dead. Everything looks good, its all reading like its working perfectly, or sometimes it reads all bad, but regardless, it just goes dead. If I reboot the router, all is roses. The router is in a clean (very), dry (as can be in Hawaii), cool (basement of concrete block, no walls that get sun) and plenty of ventilation. There's nothing to cause a failure other than the router. It can go out at anytime, no reason.

Actually I'm using a wireless card with the latest drivers and latest firmware in my Dlink router. I think I may need to rebuild XP.

I'm seeing the traffic stop on the laptop side as nothing going out.

breakmyn try rolling back the latest Realtek drivers. You may find the problem is in those.

I don't have the Realtek drivers installed. I'm running off a Dell Truemobile 1150 wireless NIC. The Realtek is disabled in my device manager.
Hm... Maybe that's why? The ethernet may be trying to wake itself up, and that halts the network... Try enabling it, and leave it there. I don't use ethernet anymore, but I leave it on, it doesn't interfere with anything

You said the magic word Dell Trumoblie.............

Go into you network settings and do the following:

1. If the truemoblie card is showing up as Bridged, then un bridge it.
2. Double click the network connection that your truemobile card is using and then go into the properties section. Click the configure tab for your Truemoblie card and UN check the option to turn off the card to save power in the Power Configure tab.

Had same issue with the Truemoblie 1500. This cleared it up.

Hope it helps

Checked your suggestions
Connection wasn't bridged
Power settings were already off.

Not that it matters but although the card is labeled as a dell truemobile 1150, it's got Orinoco firmware and drivers, since that's what it really is.

Looks like it's time to fdisk

Let us know what happens!!

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

try to update the drivers from the Dell site before you get that radical.

can't use Dell drivers anymore not that the card is an Orinoco Gold. The Dell drivers are re-branded Orinoco drivers anyway and older then the current Orinoco drivers to boot. Besides Fdisking is fun.
